If there are any horse players left on here, I figure we can use this thread to discuss the Breeders' Cup.

In my opinion, the most compelling race of the Cup will be the Ladies Classic. Royal Delta, Awesome Feather, My Miss Aurelia, Questing are the biggest names, and it should be an excellent race.

This thread will get busier as we get closer to the Cup, but I'd love to hear everyone's opinions.

I made a win bet on Joshua Tree last weekend at Woodbine and told myself if he won I would parlay it onto him winning at the Breeders' Cup. He won at 4-1...tell me not to wuss out please.

Presumably, all 15 races will be on NBC or NBC Sports Network. (Last year, when ABC / ESPN / ESPN2 aired the Breeders Cup, live coverage of the Marathon was "relegated" to TVG, but this year, the Marathon is the second race on the Friday schedule.)

I don't think he's running in the Breeders' Cup, so I don't think you have a choice.

If Awesome Feather doesn't win, I hope it's Aurelia. I loved her win last time out. I just don't know if she's in the same class as Delta and Feather.

Here are my $50 worth of Breeders' Cup Bovada future bets I have made:

$24 at 10-1 on Awesome Feather to win Ladies Classic (Now 6-1)
$16 at 12-1 on Mucho Macho Man to win Classic (Now 10-1)
$10 at 14-1 on Obviously to win Mile

Anyone else have any?

Pre-Entries just came out, so I have started looking at my selections. Everything I keep reading says Game on Dude is a single in the Classic, but I just see him finishing 2nd as he did last year.

8 days till the Cup!

Tomorrow is Day 1 of Breeders' Cup. The question on my mind is: Does anyone here care? Note - Shackleford will probably end his career Saturday in the Dirt Mile.

Breeder's Cup is here, I am not liking a lot of the races to bet, I think that is my problem. It's not that I am not excited, but if I want to bet only two races, it's hard to get excited.

I like My Miss Aurelia in the Lady's Classic

I like California Flag in the turf sprint

That's it

On a side note, a buddy of mine is at Santa Anita for the BC tournament. $400 dollar buy in tourney a month ago got him $10k, $2500 entry fee, $7500 to gamble with, keep what you win regardless of what place you come in the tourney.

Now I am exited about that

Ok, it's time. I'll post my selections and discuss the previous race throughout the day today:

The Juvenile Sprint is next. This is probably the biggest slam dunk in the whole BC with the scratch of Super Ninety Nine.

So Merit Man (3) will go off odds on, and he is my pick in the Pick-6. I also did a $1 exacta box with him and the 2 and the 6.

Here we go!

Late scratch of the 4 South Floyd. So it's a 5 horse field. Ugh. Lousy start to the day. Favorite at 3-5 right now.

LOL. A maiden wins a Breeders' Cup Race for the first time. The #1 - Hightail at 15-1 edges the 1-2 favorite at the wire. Not the start I was looking for.

Next race is the Marathon, I have a longshot, the #4 Grassy in an exacta box with the 7 Not Abroad and the 11 Commander.

The Breeders Cup is a joke. First race won by a maiden. Second race won by a 9 year-old.

Lets go back to 7-8 races. The Breeders Cup should be quality, not quantity.

Fins- nice call on Grassy; ran much better than 13-1 odds.

Yeah, my pick Grassy did finish 2nd, but I don't have anything to show for it as my next closest pick in the Exacta finished 5th. Should have just put $5 across the board on him, would have made me $50.

As Book said, winner was a 9 year old from Argentina. Went off at like 17-1, so we're looking at probably a million carryover in the Pick-6 tomorrow.

Next race is the Juvenile Fillies Turf. This is wide open.

I have the 10 Waterway Run keyed in an exacta box with the 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 13. I also have all of those but the 4 and 12 in the first leg of the million guaranteed Pick-4.

The 4 wins, at 11-1 and I'm out of the Pick-4. The 6 came in 2nd. My 10 was in the running at the 1/4 pole, then checked out.

Next is the Juvenile Fillies. I've got a longshot the 3 Spring in the Air in an exacta box with everyone but the 4 and 6.

It's been all longshots so far.

Marketing Mix finishes 2nd. Zagora makes the 1 1/4 and wins so I don't hit the exacta.

OK, time for the big finish - Ladies Classic. I get $250 if Awesome Feather wins. I also have a trifecta box with the top 4 choices. Finally, I have a Classic/Classic Double with My Miss Aurelia, Love and Pride and Royal Delta in the first leg.

Go Awesome Feather!!!

Royal Delta won showing how great she is. On her best day, she is the best horse in the country.

Hopefully tomorrow I can cash a ticket...

I thought your handicapping was solid. Typically you don't need to cash many tickets to make money on BC races as the payoffs are rather nice. Hopefully you will be rewarded at the windows on Saturday.

Wow! Royal Delta is a monster. She ran fast early and still had plenty left in the tank for the stretch.

OK here is what I would play if my bankroll was big enough, but I only will be betting what I love tomorrow

R4 - 4 Gervinho, longshot with a nice closing kick, worth a shot
R5 - 8 Musical Romance, not a huge reach here, just trying to beat the chalk outside in the 9 hole, groupie doll
R6 - 1 Rail Trip, hoping he gets exactly that, and Ellis is a great trainer who doesnt get respect.
R7 - 1 California Flag, I will be betting this one. This is a horse for course bet.
R8 - 5 Monument, tough to go against bobby b and pletcher, but hey Sadler and Talamo
R9 - 7 Little Mike, again tough tough race, wont bet it, but would take a shot with front running horse
R10 - 1 Sum Of The Parts, ugly race if I were to bet it, I would take a shot with him because of the price
R11 - 2 Wise Dan, ugh, I hate the chalk, but this is where it wins
R12 - 9 Richards Kid, closer who will pick up the pieces.

Thats it. All I know I am betting tomorrow is California Flag, I may go light on a few of the above horses but it depends on odds.

I like the surface switch, the distance, and most important.....M/L 20-1.

I celebrated at around the 1/8 pole, thinking I had the race in the bag. Had a little more than just the future bet on MMM, so the loss cost me about $300. Paynter in the Belmont cost me around the same.

Mike Smith has let me down a bunch in the last 2 years...

Oh well. Time for my 2 month horse racing break.

Had a little more than just the future bet

Speaking of future bets, the Wynn had this future bet in August:

18-1 if Zenyatta's foal (sired by Bernardini) starts the 2015 Kentucky Derby (that's "starts", not "wins"). As far as I know, the foal still does not have a name, other than "12Z".

They're offering the same odds on Jess's Dream (by Curlin out of Rachel Alexandra).
Also, you can lay 1-30 on either horse not to start the 2015 Derby.

As Zenyatta didn't even race her first race until November of her 3yo season, I think the 1-30 is the better bet. But since you're talking about not getting your money for 1 1/2 years, you're better off investing or getting interest on the money than betting it. So that means it's a don't bet.

Rachel won the Oaks by 20 and won the Preakness, so I'd be more likely to make that bet. But odds would have to be more like 50-1. So that's a no bet too. Way too much can happen.

Well I had two winners from the above list. Even after saying I wouldnt play every race, I did, but went very lightly. Huge $2 WP bets on every race, except I went a little heavier on California Flag who had nothing in the stretch.

I hit Little Mike for almost $50 and wheeled Wise Dan in the exacta, so not too bad.
