Today the 2nd Race at Fairmount Park produced these results:

#3 Dolcetto ---------------$7.40-------$3.80---------$12.20
#4 Tough Talking Annie---------------$3.20---------$14.00
#2 Highway Robbery-----------------------------------$67.40

The $2 Trifecta was $338.40.

Once or twice before I've seen show payouts higher than win or place, but just slightly higher. Per Equibase, the final odds on the horses were 2.7 to 1, 4.7 to 1, and 55.7 to 1 respectively. The favorite finished 4th, and had 0.5 to 1 odds, which I've never seen before.

Is this just a result of next to nobody betting show on these three horses, relative to the rest of the field? Or is there something else going on here that I've missed?

Looks like another bridge jumper bit the dust. Such payoffs occurred infrequently in years past. Since the advent of 2.10 minimum,
bridge jumpers had mostly disappeared, no more instant 10 percent LOL

0.50 is simply 2/5 on the tote board. 6 horse field. Somebody probably dumped 5 grand to show.

Yeah there was a bridge jumper last Saturday at Belmont race 8. The philly out of the one hole came into the race undefeated, well she didnt run. Paid, 61., 18.60 and 25.60.

Ive been known to look for races like this and better everyone but the heavy favorite to show. Easy way to clean up if you catch the right race

A great example of a bridge jumper who may now be contemplating suicide happened just yesterday in the 7th race at Calder Race Course on Saturday, September 3rd. The 4-5 favorite Motovato, a graded stakes placed horse, and six-time winner who has never finished worse than 2nd in nine lifetime starts at Calder looked to be a safe bet, even for a bridge jumper. As the horses went to post, Motavato had around $190,000 bet on him to show. After breaking poorly and not finding the best footing on a sloppy track, Motovato tried to make a move but faded and finished dead last. The result was a windfall for show bettors who put down even a small bet on any of the other horses in the field.

Take a look at the official chart to see how the race went down. Payoffs are below.

#1 15.00 12.00 40.60

#4 21.60 61.40

#6 32.20

Proving once again , just because you have money, that does not mean you are smart.

Guess that instant 5 % does not look so good now.
