I heard that it is better to play no name slots rather than name branded ones, such as Wheel of Fortune or Godfather, because the casino's has to pay royalties. Is this true?

It's logical. The more money spent on development, and the more people that have to be paid, the higher they have to increase the house average.

Licensing fees, royalties or whatever is needed to get rights for the latest cartoon figures will probably mean a lower payout although sometimes the more popular machines might get enough action to bump up a progressive payout into decent territory. I understand that the Rockin' Olives were from hand painted graphics but it also seems that everyone loves that machine and plays it.

I ofcourse avoid slot machines entirely but I would surely avoid the very au courant ones.

But, maybe the high rate of play could more than offset additional costs and actually allow a higher return. Say 1% of a million is better than 10% of 50 thousand.

But if the name brands take a higher percent of the profit than the no name slots, then the casinos will lower the winning percentage so they can make their money.

I would say in general that slot machine theme or design doesn't make people play more overall. The typical gambler has a fixed amount of money they can play and they are going to play until it's gone or they hit something big enough to decide to walk. While the player might be attracted to the new shiny game and spend a good portion of their money on that game it just detracts from the play they would have had on other games. The slot company getting a piece of the pie likes it but it does nothing for the casino.

Makes sense but I don't think it matters to most players. Many slot players want not just their "brand" of machine but THEIR MACHINE. Say second from the left WoF machine. They play that one and that is it. Some are fanatical.

I've seen customers actually get mad when we've just move the machine from one side of a bank to the other. There are a lot of "screen rubbers" out there.
