The *entirety* of Wizard of Vegas resulted in exactly *one* clickthrough to my site yesterday. Clearly I'm not linking for the clicks.
Also, 46 of the pages on my site link to WizardOfOdds.com, and 11 link to WizardOfVegas.com, so nanny-nanny-boo-boo.

Fair enough. I still think it's poor form, given the frequency, but didn't necessarily suspect that you were actually drawing a ton of traffic from it. I'll come off it.
Also, the clickthrough was me. Already have a Bovada account, sorry.

I may have also visited (I think I did), but I may be blocking referer data.

Michael, I am raising my hand and admitting that I clicked into your site today from one of the links you posted in WOV. it was part of my administrator shtick; I was checking to assure that they weren't links into snuff porn. I did stay and read some pages on your site, though, and found it interesting.
Quote: WizardI've had a similar idea for many years. Those in the industry I've bounced it off of just poo-poo'd it, with explanation.

I suspect the poo-pooing is because paying income taxes on winnings isn't the slot machine game industry's problem, so they couldn't care less about it,
Getting back on topic, I wonder how hard it would be to lobby Congress to abolish gambling taxes, given that they're unfair, make no sense, and other countries don't have them? I'm toying with the idea of spearheading that kind of campaign when I retire. I imagine the casinos would bankroll the expenses, it's a win for them if they don't have to do busywork with W-2G's any more.

More than W-2G’s, I would think more people would gamble or gamble more if winnings were not taxed. So that’s more revenue and profit for the casinos.
I think it would be a very heavy lift to get changes to the tax law for this. Government never likes less tax revenue (whatever certain political parties may profess). And gamblers do not seem a particularly sympathetic group for tax relief.
Maybe a half loaf would be fixing the unfairness of gambling losses being “below the line” deductions and only for itemizers. Maybe treat gambling as a “hobby” subject to hobby gains and losses under the tax code?
Quote: MichaelBluejayI'd be satisfied if you could just net your wins/losses and report the positive result as a win, rather than "total of all winning sessions = win income" and "total of all losing sessions is a deduction" (which most people can't actually take).

Yes that was what I was saying in my last paragraph. That feels like a more achievable goal. There’s some intuitive appeal to having gambling be treated like other hobbies, even if the recreational gambler can’t file as a professional.
