Fun With Puppies!!!

I have decided that I am going to try my hand at theoretical Greyhound racing using the following system:

There are eight dogs in every race at Wheeling Island Racetrack. I will bet $2.00 on each dog to win based upon the previous day's odds, until I reach a dog that is a break-even point. In the event that I do not have $2.00 on over half (five or more) dogs, then there will be no bet.

You have a 5-1 dog in a 6-dog bet - is this right, considering it's a break-even bet (assuming it pays 5-1)?

Also, how do you choose the dogs - do you always bet the longest shot in the race, or is there any sort of maximum odds you are willing to consider?

Yes, that's the intended bet. I would get the $2.00 back on a win so break even overall. There is no maximum number of dogs to pick, but the minimum is that I must have at least 5/9 dogs to win giving me over a 50% chance just based on the number of dogs. If I am doing worse that breaking even on my most likely dog, or if I reach a point where a dog loses me money (and I don't have five dogs yet) then I wouldn't bet the dog, or make a bet on the race, in the latter case.

I recall one gambler at the dog track in South Florida would send his young daughter to take note of which dogs defecated before a race, but his eight year old daughter simply marked the card with the dogs who, like her, were skinny females.

I did not know that about Awesome Feather, but yeah, I would say, "Why not?" They are two completely different registries each one having nothing to do with the other so there is no confusion. I have a friend who adopted a retired greyhound whose racing name was, "Gable Flamingo," and interestingly, there are two Gable Flamingos, both hounds, which I didn't think you were supposed to do.

I'll probably post up Tuesday's picks tomorrow, I'm still beating the Take, but it's early and Friday was UGLY!
