On the Jan 17 Gambling with an Edge show our guest will be our own Teddys. For those of you who make be asking "why?," let me tell you. Teddy not only is a great guy but a two-time Jeopardy winner (correct me if I'm wrong) and an expert on living in Vegas for free (or nearly free). As I understand it, Teddy has been living from one hotel to another for about four months now. He has never paid for a single hotel room or meal since he moved here around September, except for one. That one meal was when HotBlonde asked him to take her to the Heart Attack Grill after the weigh-in.

So, we'll be talking about low-level comp hustling for sure, but are there any specific questions you'd like Bob and I to ask Teddy?

Ask him if its nerve wracking to live like that,
not knowing where you'll be next week. I
would hate it.

Obvious question:

Just how much gambling does he do to maintain that sort of comp level, and how is his bankroll doing?

Not so obvious:

Does he worry that going public on your radio show will be the end of his gravy train, or is he going to use an alias on the show?

Super humble but has the balls to go on Jeopardy and dominate. Disciplined "Low-level comp hustler" yet uses these comps on random acts of kindness for strangers and friends alike (hope he doesn't mind me saying so). Teddys is a true one of a kind! Can't wait for the program.

I will definitely give this show a listen, as what Teddys has done (is doing) is remarkable. Promises to be a fascinating interview.

I have only seen him play craps. If that is all he plays, it would be interesting to know why someone with such an active and capable mind would choose a "no skill" game over another in which he could utilize his mental power (such as counting card games, or poker, or sports betting, etc.).

Low level poker comps are an unenviable lifestyle of constant moves, laundramats, low hands, travel by bus, etc.

Atleast a casino game makes the casino think you are going to be of some value to them, rather than other poker players.

Does the daily grind extend beyond normal hours? Is Teddy also employed at this time but merely avoiding a hotel bill?

LOL...yeah, you earn the casino ~$10/hr on average and they usually give you $1/hr in comps directly on your card to start with. There's not much else to give live poker players. But it's funny to read many clueless internet poker wizards on 2+2 who totally overvalue their worth to a casino.

I happen to know he had a delicious meal for free at the Cosmopolitan's Wicked spoon this evening.

We hung out with a couple of my buds tonight and played some craps.

I won money betting tall stacks of green chips on Teddy's rolls. It was awesome!

3) What's his aver win/loss per day taking into consider gambling, tips, transportation, etc.?
4) How long does he plan on staying in Vegas?
5) What's his best tip?

Teddys I wish you good variance, and take them for all you can!!!

How is:

I am down over five figures playing craps since October 1, 2012. I have no more bankroll to speak of.

5 figures is at least $10k he's been in Vegas 4+ month, some math, $10,000 / 120days=$83.33/day. I for one say he's paid for rooms and food(not necessarily were he got comped)
Quote: teddys

typical exposure of $150-$200 per shooter.

How is that "low-level comp hustling", to each their own, but once you are talking black chip for ratings I can't see that as low-level play.

So I ask 7)what's your standard for someone to be considered a low roller?

My understanding of his post was that most of this was by playing max odds.

My understanding is also that most places don't rate odds (although, I guess some places do... in particular, I have heard that the Cosmo does, and that does just happen to be a comp that Teddy is currently trying to sell... so I dunno if this play that cost him all this money was factored into his comps or not)

Please divorce any correlation of my craps play with my regular gambling career which I will talk about on the Wizard's show. Believe it or not, I am a low roller by nature. I hate variance.

The crap losses were just a death spiral of poor decisions that happened to take place shortly after I moved here. I'm not proud of it. But it is incidental to the play I did before that. (How do you think I got the five figures in the first place?)

Ok saying black chip for ratings may not be right when it comes to craps. I'm just having a problem calling someone who has $150-200 on the table low-level.

Above was written before teddys post

Thanks for the update teddys, Something along the line of poor decisions happens to all of us. It makes more sense that the craps action is an anomaly for a low-level hustler. I got stuck with the $150-200 risked and still call it low-level.

I am curious what level of play and games you play and would consider low-level?

I wish every player good variance unless I own the casino!!!

It would not surprise me if Teddy gives up gambling after his law career is firmly established. After I took the homeless fellow out for lunch last Vegas trip, we went to the Palms where he played a positive EV VP game, as I was interested in how it really played. He had a mindless stare about him as he at lightning speed played the game, which due to positive variance double his small starting coin in. The 'up' part didn't seem to excite him at all. I also had the same feeling when he played craps, with hundreds of dollars on the table at any one time. I am sure I was more nervous for him than he was! When I mentioned to him that over the course of 5 minutes he won (or lost) more than he would make in a WEEK, I think it was enlightening to him.

The one question I have for Teddy---- How do you explain to a date, when you say 'my place or yours?', that your place is the El Cortez?

Looking forward to seeing you in March--- good luck, Teddy!

He's quite a character.

I have spent considerable amounts of time just trying to persuade him into having more fun.

He is a very focused guy. The last time we went out was the first time I saw him bet like I do. And I think he did enjoy it (tiny bets and just having fun and enjoying making $10 and walking).

A win is a win is a win! I expect he's already gone from his last few bucks to a couple thousand and back since his last post though.

I spent all my money on toys and I'm back to the grind.

In fact, I bought ANOTHER $400 slow motion camera this morning. The Casio EX-ZR1000. It's awesome. I had to get it after I fiddled with it at the CES show.

I would like to know:

1.) How Teddy deals with gambling stress? Especially on the down days.

2.) Being technically homeless and living from comped room to comped room, how much does he have to gamble at a property to receive that comped room?

3.) What's your favorite table games and slot machine?

4.) What's your best comp and how much play did you need to cycle to get that?

5.) So far, where's your best action? On strip, off strip, or downtown?

6.) What's your best winning session and what's your worst? What about streaks?

7.) When it comes to food comps, what's the best meal comp you've received.

For now, I'm closing this to new questions, as the 17 I wrote are awaiting Teddy's approval.

I'd like you to ask Teddy if he thinks he has a gambling
problem. Soopoo said something interesting. He watched
Teddy play craps and it was like he was in some kind of
trance, and afterwards he wasn't even really aware of how
much money changed hands.

I've seen people play like that and they have a gambling
problem. My wife is one of them. She's in a trancelike
state when she plays slots. You can't talk to her, reason
with her, or get her to stop. I said here before that one time
I resorted to taking her bucket away and throwing it, with
quarters flying everywhere.

Does Teddy ever feel like he's out of control when he plays?

If you can squeeze one more in Wizard, I'm curious about his philosophy on tipping. Since he depends on his winnings as an important source of income, does he feel that tipping is taking food from his own mouth, a necessary cost of doing business, or an investment that provides a return?
