So, we'll be talking about low-level comp hustling for sure, but are there any specific questions you'd like Bob and I to ask Teddy?

Ask him if its nerve wracking to live like that,
not knowing where you'll be next week. I
would hate it.
Quote: sodawaterPlease ask him to rate how yummy his meal with HotBlonde was on a scale from 1 to super yummy
Gag me with a plastic spoon...
Just how much gambling does he do to maintain that sort of comp level, and how is his bankroll doing?
Not so obvious:
Does he worry that going public on your radio show will be the end of his gravy train, or is he going to use an alias on the show?
Did HB pocket the tip after dinner?
I have only seen him play craps. If that is all he plays, it would be interesting to know why someone with such an active and capable mind would choose a "no skill" game over another in which he could utilize his mental power (such as counting card games, or poker, or sports betting, etc.).
Atleast a casino game makes the casino think you are going to be of some value to them, rather than other poker players.
Does the daily grind extend beyond normal hours? Is Teddy also employed at this time but merely avoiding a hotel bill?
Quote: FleaStiffLow level poker comps are an unenviable lifestyle of constant moves, laundramats, low hands, travel by bus, etc.
LOL...yeah, you earn the casino ~$10/hr on average and they usually give you $1/hr in comps directly on your card to start with. There's not much else to give live poker players. But it's funny to read many clueless internet poker wizards on 2+2 who totally overvalue their worth to a casino.
Quote: bigfoot66Is he sick if hotel food and ready for home cooking?
He seemed happy to have a home-cooked meal at my house at one point.
Quote:Where is all his "stuff"? Surely he is not lugging it around beyond a couple suitcases...
I think he is!
We hung out with a couple of my buds tonight and played some craps.
I won money betting tall stacks of green chips on Teddy's rolls. It was awesome!
1) What are his fundamental rules?
2)If he had a week or so without rooms, would he stay at a hostel?
3) What's his aver win/loss per day taking into consider gambling, tips, transportation, etc.?
4) How long does he plan on staying in Vegas?
5) What's his best tip?
Teddys I wish you good variance, and take them for all you can!!!
edit 6) What size of a bankroll would you recommend someone has to do the low limit hustle?
Ask him how he plans to continue with this lifestyle having now lost his entire bankroll at the craps table.
overnight.

How is:
Quote: teddysI am down over five figures playing craps since October 1, 2012. I have no more bankroll to speak of.
5 figures is at least $10k he's been in Vegas 4+ month, some math, $10,000 / 120days=$83.33/day. I for one say he's paid for rooms and food(not necessarily were he got comped)
How is that "low-level comp hustling", to each their own, but once you are talking black chip for ratings I can't see that as low-level play.Quote: teddystypical exposure of $150-$200 per shooter.
So I ask 7)what's your standard for someone to be considered a low roller?

My understanding of his post was that most of this was by playing max odds.
My understanding is also that most places don't rate odds (although, I guess some places do... in particular, I have heard that the Cosmo does, and that does just happen to be a comp that Teddy is currently trying to sell... so I dunno if this play that cost him all this money was factored into his comps or not)
The crap losses were just a death spiral of poor decisions that happened to take place shortly after I moved here. I'm not proud of it. But it is incidental to the play I did before that. (How do you think I got the five figures in the first place?)
Above was written before teddys post
Thanks for the update teddys, Something along the line of poor decisions happens to all of us. It makes more sense that the craps action is an anomaly for a low-level hustler. I got stuck with the $150-200 risked and still call it low-level.
I am curious what level of play and games you play and would consider low-level?
I wish every player good variance unless I own the casino!!!

Well, if you're like me: WORK.
Try it.
Actually, it looks like you'll have to.
Ah, schadenfreude ...
The dream is over.

If you had been following Teddy's blog, you would know that he has a full-time day job now, in Vegas.
Not that it's expected that everyone on the forum follow all of the blogs. More of just an "FYI" post for you :)
Thanks. I hadn't seen his latest entry.Quote: AcesAndEightsIf you had been following Teddy's blog, you would know that he has a full-time day job now, in Vegas.
Now that I read it, I have another question:
Did your employer have any concerns since you don't have a permanent address, or with your method of finding a place to stay?
+1Quote: deedubbsWhat games/hotels, if any, would he recommend to a wannabe comp hustlers who go to Vegas twice a year?

Try a different browser. IE works.
Quote: GHIE works.
I think I would rather not bother than to start using IE again. :P

Haven't you heard? IE sucks... less.

Hey, it worked, thanks. I was using Firefox.

The plugin wouldn't work in Firefox at all.
It wouldn't install it, even doing it manually.

Second most popular browser at the moment, has decent javascript rendering and less quirks than Chrome for some things.
The one question I have for Teddy---- How do you explain to a date, when you say 'my place or yours?', that your place is the El Cortez?
Looking forward to seeing you in March--- good luck, Teddy!
I have spent considerable amounts of time just trying to persuade him into having more fun.
He is a very focused guy. The last time we went out was the first time I saw him bet like I do. And I think he did enjoy it (tiny bets and just having fun and enjoying making $10 and walking).
A win is a win is a win! I expect he's already gone from his last few bucks to a couple thousand and back since his last post though.
I spent all my money on toys and I'm back to the grind.
In fact, I bought ANOTHER $400 slow motion camera this morning. The Casio EX-ZR1000. It's awesome. I had to get it after I fiddled with it at the CES show.
1.) How Teddy deals with gambling stress? Especially on the down days.
2.) Being technically homeless and living from comped room to comped room, how much does he have to gamble at a property to receive that comped room?
3.) What's your favorite table games and slot machine?
4.) What's your best comp and how much play did you need to cycle to get that?
5.) So far, where's your best action? On strip, off strip, or downtown?
6.) What's your best winning session and what's your worst? What about streaks?
7.) When it comes to food comps, what's the best meal comp you've received.
For now, I'm closing this to new questions, as the 17 I wrote are awaiting Teddy's approval.
Quote: WizardHowever, Bob can be hard to please. .
Yeah, I can't hear enough talk about feeding
a machine and pushing a button. He should
worry about pleasing his audience and not
himself.

I thought he was talking about you, E-Bob! [g]
problem. Soopoo said something interesting. He watched
Teddy play craps and it was like he was in some kind of
trance, and afterwards he wasn't even really aware of how
much money changed hands.
I've seen people play like that and they have a gambling
problem. My wife is one of them. She's in a trancelike
state when she plays slots. You can't talk to her, reason
with her, or get her to stop. I said here before that one time
I resorted to taking her bucket away and throwing it, with
quarters flying everywhere.
Does Teddy ever feel like he's out of control when he plays?
Quote: WizardThanks for all the suggestions. I already have 17 questions on my sheet, and we usually have time for only 8-10 on the show. If Teddy does well I'm sure we could have him back for any questions we didn't get to this time. However, Bob can be hard to please. The pressure is on.
For now, I'm closing this to new questions, as the 17 I wrote are awaiting Teddy's approval.
If you can squeeze one more in Wizard, I'm curious about his philosophy on tipping. Since he depends on his winnings as an important source of income, does he feel that tipping is taking food from his own mouth, a necessary cost of doing business, or an investment that provides a return?
