I discovered this forum tonight and this is my fourth post...ha.

Anyway, I wanted to ask about vig for lay bets (any craps dealers?)

Every casino I go to charges it differently. Some say $1 for 20, or $1 for 50, or whatever. It is all over the map what casinos charge. I thought it was suppose to be 5%. Also, the minimum lay bet allowed is always so variable.....some say $40, some say $20 - and that isn't written anywhere.

It is all very frustrating.

Thoughts?

Some places give a break, others charge the 5%:
some take the vig out only on a win instead of you throwing in a dollar when you make the bet, and some charge a dollar per $25, not $20.
1. getting a discount is always a pleasant surprise, not a frustration, I feel, and
2. On a lay bet, you charge on the bet made, or on the bet resolved.
See: dice percentages as practiced, go down to Lay bets.

It's just like the dice game in general...
The rules are dependant on the operator.
(the particular place I go charges $1 per $30 on win only)

Welcome.

Vig, or Vigorish is the commission charged such as that charged by a dice dealer. Juice is the "pull" or influence the dice dealer used to get hired.

Yeah, sometimes its a real pain.

>It is all very frustrating.
You will often find the frustration diminishes as your tipping behavior increases.

Juice is also a slang term used in the poker world to describe hefty fees taken out by the tournament directors. Some tournaments are "juiced" so heavily the tournament cannot be profitable, even for the best of poker players.

You could refer to the vig taken out as "juice" but it wouldn't seem to make as much sense in that context.

Santa Ana Star is the only casino I have ever heard of that charges no vig at all on buying a 4 and a 10. If you do nothing but bet this bet all night without tipping the boys you will be backed off . I got that impression from a discussion with the pit boss.

In general I would always make a $30 bet and see what they charge you. If they have 50 cent chips and they charge you $1.50 commission, then make your next bet $25. If they only charge you $1 commission, then that should be your bet.
