Hello -

Searched forum and web but could not find the answer.

I've long thought, but can't remember where I learned, that playing 3 numbers with max odds is the best odds. Is this correct?

What is the difference in odds vs. house when playing one number vs. playing three numbers?

Mainly asking for bankroll purposes.

Thanks!

Are you saying placing three "come" bets? Obviously it's going to depend upon which numbers you happen to be playing.

1 Pass followed by 2 come if it gets to that, maximum 3 numbers. Max odds on each number.

When you say it's going to depend on which numbers you're playing (that's not obvious to me), why? And based on that, how does the wizard come up with a house edge of .374%? And is that edge based on one number from the pass?

Thanks!

From https://wizardofodds.com/ask-the-wizard/craps-bettingsystems/:

I love to play craps and would like your opinion on a conventional method of play. Pass line and two come bets with full double odds or with one come bet? Does having three different bets working superior to two? - Richard from Binghamton, USA

"As long as you are backing up your pass and come bets with full odds it doesn't make any difference how many come bets you make. However it does help to keep the odds on your come bets turned on in the come out roll." March 11, 2001

I do not really understand your bankroll question. Be more specific.

Adding more come bets will increase your expected loss while adding more to your odds bet does not but both ways will increase your variance, expect higher bankroll swings with more bets that are made.

This answered it, thanks.

It's the swings in the bankroll - thanks again.

No. It is simply a common style of play. As a matter of fact it is one that I happen to use quite often but I have no illusions that it is somehow the "best".
Just to confirm what I'm talking about here it is:
One PassLine bet (with odds) and then two ComeBets (each also with odds). Then pause and await results.
The reason Max Odds is recommended is that the LineBet has a small house edge associated with it, however the Odds Bet (also known as Free Odds Bet) is without any edge at all. No House Edge, No Player Edge. When you do the math it helps to lower your overall edge that is against you if you do take max odds.

>What is the difference in odds vs. house when playing one number vs. playing three numbers?
None whatsoever. You could make three bets at three different craps tables if you wanted to. Its just that using three tables would be a bit confusing and distracting, so you make three separate bets at the same table. 1.414 house edge if you do not take any odds. Lower if you do take odds, but it depends on what odds-multiplier is allowed. Some cheapo casinos only allow you to take 2x odds, some 10x, a few 100x (though that is often simply a gimmick). The most commonly encountered odds factor in Vegas is 3x4x5x.

In the long run, with one number it wouldn't really matter, because it accounts for getting each number. I don't know what odds you play at, whether it's 3-4-5 or something else. It's just that now with introducing a come bet, you'd then have to add in a base case for the 2nd and the 3rd roll, similar to that base case that is used if the come out roll resolves the pass line bet. Unfortunately I can't find my notes on how to calculate the pass line bet that I did a while back on my own (read: I'm a geek), but you could probably calculate it pretty easily. Just remember that you have to resolve the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd roll before you extrapolate each situation out in the long term.

So I guess to answer my own question, it wouldn't really matter in the long term which bets you place.
