I just played $10 of free play on 6/5 5-cents per coin Bonus poker. I cashed out $9.

I went to the craps pit to pick up a $15 food comp.

While I was there a player bought in for $60,000 betting $1,000 flat with $10,000 odds.

Before the boxman could write up my $15 comp he had busted out.

Red Rock.

I'm nauseous.

I enjoyed watching savvy, well-heeled craps players at Casino Royale take advantage of the 100X odds they offered.

Bet ten bucks on the line and put a grand behind it.

Alan, I am not doubting your claim. Do you have THAT kind of money to lose? I know you once played those kind of limits but was under the impression you were more in retirement mode, more on a fixed income. If you don't have that kind of money to lose....what the hell were you thinking?

Hopefully, things turn around and wishing you a good 2022.

BTW, as you know just a couple years ago that kind of play would have at least gotten you that separate table game mailer with free bets and match plays for a number of months. With stations having done away with that and tightened up, you don't even get that benefit. :(

Kewlj never in my life did I play those kind of limits. My biggest buy in at a craps game was $2,000.

Frankly in all my time at Caesars and Bellagio I only saw maybe a dozen players who bought in for $60,000 or more.

Even when Rene Angilil was alive his usual buy in was $25k and I played with him often at both Caesars and then after Celine took action, I played with him at Bellagio.

I do recall one player at Caesars who had $2.5-million in markers. And at Red Rock there was once a player who had $20k as his buyin. But this $60k buyin lost so quickly takes the cake.

Now... you ask what was I thinking? I was thinking this player had the worst luck I ever saw. $1,000 bets with full odds and no house advantage on the odds and he never rolled one repeater.

BUT had he made place bets of $5,000 each (the max at Red Rock) he would have almost doubled his money.

And that's what made me so sick.

Years ago I met up with a friend at Casino Royale who was a don't player $10 on DP with max odds and in less than half an hour he lost about $25k.

A friend went to the Riviera when they offered 1000X odds. I suspect he lost $250K. He wouldn't talk about it afterwards.

It was shortly before the Riv closed. The one thousand times odds didnt last long.

I'm going to try to Google it.

While not anywhere near that scale, this reminds of an event I ran into at the EC, circa 2010 or so.
I'm playing low-stakes BJ and a gentleman joins us. The clothes he has on are straight out of the 70s and he tells us it is his 85th birthday. We play for about a half-hour and his wife and daughter come by. They too are wearing clothes that went out of fashion a long time ago. The daughter asks if her father can get a comp for the steakhouse since it is his birthday. The pitt says no, that he is nowhere near getting a comp for three to the steakhouse. There are three of us at the table so the woman takes out two hundred dollar bills and puts a black chip in the two empty squares. She loses and repeats the action. In about a minute she made eight $100 bets and she lost them all. She asks for a comp and the pitt boss tells her to keep betting like that for another hour or two and she'll get her free dinner. I felt bad, but the way she tossed around $100 bills made me wonder how much money she had. I do know her desire for a freebie cost her $800.
The older I get, the better I recall things that never happened

Alan, I am surprised! I am surprised that after hitting one of those 100k royals, you didn't march straight over to your favorite game, craps and bet some higher than normal limits.

I may have to re-think my opinion of you as just another gambler. LOL.

When I hit those three $100k royals I took home one check for $90k and two checks for $100k.

As they (used to) say (before Covid) we will be here when you come back.

Are you saying he'd have won had he made place bets such a placing six and eight only, or perhaps betting inside on 5, 6. 8 and 9, or maybe across on 4, 5. 6, 8, 9 and 10?

Not sure I understand what numbers you think he should have placed; certainly not the point number(s)?

Whatever, luck happens and sometimes with a sudden turn of great luck resulting in a big win the gambler's resulting feeling of elation / joy/ surprise can rival that of a hand pay.

Hell, isn't that a big reason why we play craps?

He should have simply used his crystal ball to place the numbers that would have rolled and then taken them down after each one hit (no repeaters occurred). It's the only way the story makes sense.

In order to win come bets with odds you have to hit the same number twice.

He hit five numbers once but failed to hit each of those numbers a second time.

Here's the math of the payoffs on the five $5,000 place bets:

4 pays $10,000 less 5% = $9500
5 pays $7500
6 pays $4998 X 7/6 = $5831
8 was the point
9 pays $7500
10 pays $10,000 less 5% = $9500

Total wins = $47310 plus return of each place bet if he took it down which would have been $24998

Grand total $47310 + $24998 = $72308

Why take the place bets down? Because it's the equivalent of a come bet that comes down after it hits.

Even losing the passline bet with odds he still would have had a profit.

On the other hand had he rolled five repeaters he would have won more money, but he rolled no repeaters.

It depends on the bettor.

If they're well behaved and polite then yeah, I feel a bit bad for them, but if on the contrary they're loud, brash, arrogant and basically jerks then no, I don't feel bad: that's when schadenfreude kicks in.

I don't really experience much (just a little) envy when someone hits it big.

I don't know any poor people that have $60k to gamble and I know a lot of poor people.
