Hello,

I have never posted anything before and I am new to the forum, but here it goes. I go to Vegas two or three times a year, and I just started playing craps about a year ago. My question is if I have place bets or come bets with odds is it not best to keep them working on every roll.

Thanks JR

they are only off by default on the come out roll, by the rules

i wood keeps them working to win and not to lose

the dice do not know it is a come out roll unless (UNLESS) they see the puck saying "OFF"

i hear dice have great hearing (and poor sight, they due get cocked many times)
just what i hear

thank you for sharing!

This was discussed at length just a couple days ago.

Welcome. Don't mind Sally, she tends to bend an elbow on occasion.

Bottom line, do what you like.

Welcome to the Forum, JR

Mathematically, the Wiz argues that you should have odds working on the come-out. Having odds (a bet that carries no edge) reduces the effective edge of the line + odds bet combination. If the odds are off on the come-out roll, this reduction is not there for that one roll. So, the argument would be that if you want to make an odds bet, you should want it for every roll, not just when there is an established point.

Personally, I like having my come bet odds off on the come-out. That way, if a 'winner' 7 rolls it is mostly a wash, not a big loss.

As for place bets, it doesn't matter since the house edge, effective or otherwise, does not change. In fact, you could argue the other way. Since there is an unchanging house edge, the less often the bet is working, the less you lose.

Yes, I agree with this.

Thanks for the replies. I just thought it was odd the weird looks I would get from other people at the table (and sometimes the dealers) when they heard me tell them to leave them working. I don't bet big so I don't lose big and I figured the odds of rolling any given number are the same every role.

I suspect the casinos do things for their advantage ALL the time... Like when you win a sucker bet, they pay you but keep your original bet on the table since they know you'll likely loose it.

Without any math knowledge, I suspect we could answer this question by asking - what is the default the casino pushes?

The default is off. If it was advantageous for the casino to be working, I suspect that would be the default.
