I know that in craps if you have a point of 6 (correction) you can take $5 in free odds which wins 6. Point of 5 or 9 $4 on odds wins $6. And on a 4 or 10 your free odds pays double. So what changes in a 3,4,5 game? Isn't it the same?

You can take up to 3x odds on the 4-10 (2-1)
You can take up to 4x odds on the 5-9 (3-2)
You can take up to 5x odds on the 6-8 (6-5)

Basically a $5 pass bet, with max odds on each number would pay $30.

It's referring to how much you can bet. 3x 4x 5x your passline bet.

Related question: does 3/4/5 odds work both ways - i.e. when you bet Don't, the maximum odds bet is always 6x your Don't Pass/Come bet?

Yes, laying $30 on the 4-10 pays $15.
Laying $30 on the 5-9 pays $20.
Laying $30 on the 6-8 pays $25.

I think.....just quick in my head. ;-)

So with a $5 bet you could only make a $15 odds bet on a point of 10? You couldn't bet free odds for less? And likewise you would have to bet $25 on free odds on a point of 6 (same $5 pass line bet)?

You can bet anything you want between the minimum bet and the maximum.

You can bet less. If you want to play 2X odds at a 3-4-5X table, they won't stop you.

The 3-4-5X is the MAX odds for the table.

The odds bets are the best bet in the casino. It pays true odds, so there is ZERO house edge.

Right, but keep in mind to bet an Even $$$ amount on Odds if the Point is 5 or 9, houses will often remind you if you don't. The reason is because how the 3/2 pay works out, so, "Even Odds," pays right...and sounds like an oxymoron, even though it's not.

I have come to think of 3x4x5x as the border between Craps that allow long sessions and Craps that suggest short sessions.

For example 2x Craps still allows passline betting with HE below 1%, and that's hard to criticize. But IMO it's much harder to play a long time and still be ahead, should the Dice Gods smile at all.

Mission, are you referring to, like, making a $5 free odds bet with a point of 5 and the house not paying $7.50 but $7--if they don't have 50 cent checks or half dollars?

Correct. Most crap tables don't have less than dollars so make your bet one that can result in round amounts or they'll short you. In some jurisdictions this is illegal though.

As far as I know, the house always rounds down when the winnings are fractional.

When I was last gambling in 2006/7 there was talk at Mohegan Sun of making Pass Line 5x and Don't Pass 3-4-5x. Thiis never went through. (At a $5 table $26 on the 5 or 9) Like others said 3-4-5x is basically laying 6x on any point. I'm surprised this hasn't caught on considering most tables are $10 min. these days.
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.
