I know it's been mentioned before, but the How NOT to play the darkside thread got me thinking more about it.

I recently mentioned this concept to a dark sider while we were at the craps table. He loved the idea.

It's regular craps with one very minor rule change:
Shooters keep the dice if they 7-out, and pass them when they make a point.

The layout, printed on black felt, also has minor changes to accomodate the larger than usual number of dark side bettors, such as the addition of DC bet boxes near the stickman and making the DC side of the number boxes larger, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that all these changes can be done without any Gaming approval.

Note that even though it seems like an obvious change, I wouldn't want to swap the position of the Pass / Don't Pass lines because that would cause confusion for new players, as well as induce errors from dealers that move from regular craps to dark side craps.

Other changes that would require Gaming approval would be to add a No Field bet, and an "Ice" bet.

The No Field bet pays even money for 6, 7 and 8, and pushes for a "center field 5". That would be a zero house edge bet.

The "Ice" bet is the dark side version of a Firebet - where you track the individual points that are not made.

The casino would be wise to only do that rule for shooters who shoot from the don't.

You can already pass the dice on a winning roll, and nobody EVER wants to do that. People get UPSET when I do it, frequently (which makes it even more fun for me to do).

Quitting while you are winning is just not a natural thing for people to do while gambling. I think the casinos benefit from people who press until they lose it all.

The point exactly... and quite interesting this has never been the case.

I like the idea of no-field, and I also like the idea of "no-point" at 9:5.

If I were to make a big change, FIELD = 2-3-5-9-11-12 with 12 at 2:1... the 7 is a PUSH.
This sets an odd/even tone to the bet. Consider Pass line Win on 7, Don'ts Lose on 7, Field Push on 7.
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.

I see this again and again regarding place bets. Most just keep pressing until they eventually lose. This makes the house take from craps significantly more than the relatively low house advantage would imply. I often hear the rationale of "playing with the casino's money" or "playing with the house's money." No bigger fallacy. Any chips in your rail are your money. Lousy money management dooms many a player.

Yup.

I've had dealers ask me why I don't press my bets, especially place bets. While pressing can make me more money on a long roll, it can cause me to lose more money on a short roll that I mistakenly think will become a long roll. I would rather be happy with my winnings than angry I got greedy and lost.

Well, since you have seven results, I'd say you missed one important detail. The "Ice" bet, like the Firebet, would be tracking a 7-out on unique points, and paying after X unique points get a 7-out without making ANY point.

Interesting idea, but I don't think it would fly. Too many dark side players (myself included) like to play the part of the "mysterious stranger" going against the rest of the table.
