I noticed a game called Set it Up Blackjack at the Downtown Grand yesterday. It's the same as regular blackjack, except they add five side bets on the dealer's eventual total. I explain all the rules and show my analysis in my new page on Dealer's Total Side Bets.

On a mostly unrelated note, that game pays 3-2 on a blackjack and has a $5 minimum. I think that is the lowest minimum 3-2 game in Vegas.

I welcome all questions and comments on my page.

The question for the poll is would you bet the Dealer's Total?

This game must be doing relatively well, it has popped up in a couple different places downtown and a couple of the local casinos in town as well.

I think you mean ‘the negative numbers indicate a player DISADVANTAGE’?

I played this in November. I asked if the side bet was mandatory and was told “No”. That was a welcome answer after all of the mandatory side bet games downtown. $5 3/2 is great. The downtown grand is a really nice casino. One BJ dealer was annoying—he was dealing absurdly fast and making mistakes while talking about how great he was and how there was no need for a basic strategy card while he was dealing because he knows it all (he didn’t). Overall though, great game. I don’t play BJ much anymore because almost every other game is 6/5 or mandatory sidebet or $50+ for 3/2.
If anyone gives you 10,000 to 1 on anything, you take it. If John Mellencamp ever wins an Oscar, I am going to be a very rich dude.
