(From the Wizard website.) Blackjack with a CSM reduces casino advantage by 0.014?
If Red 7 counting starts at a -2 count with 1 deck, and a game with a CSM will never improve on that, why isn't a CSM a disadvantage to the player?

As it was explained to me, games played with a cut card have a miniscule disadvantage to the player when compared to games played a certain number of rounds to the shuffle.
May the cards fall in your favor.

DanB,

The 0.014 reduction in house edge value mentioned is the change in Basic Strategy EV. It arises because, as Dieter mentioned, the CSM game has no "cut card effect". Considering only the EV, a CSM helps the Basic Strategy player slightly, but not enough to make the game +EV.

For a card counter, the CSM is purely a disadvantage, because the counter doesn't get the penetration needed to achieve a favorable count.

Hope this helps!

Adding the link to the WoO page for the future:
https://wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/cut-card-effect/

I wish to emphasize that a 0.014% difference in the house edge is tiny. That works out to winning or losing an extra 14 cents per $1000 wagered, or that you would need to wager about $7143 for the difference to be $1.

For comparison, switching from an 8 deck game to a 6 deck game changes the house edge about twice as much, and switching between a Hit 17 and a Stand 17 game changes the house edge about 15 times as much.

Thanks Dog Hand for a much clearer explanation than I had handy.
May the cards fall in your favor.

Gambling is a math contest where the score is tracked in dollars. Try not to get a negative score.

It's a disadvantage for every player as CSM's allow more hands per hour, each one at a house advantage.

For the non-card counter, it seems the lack of a positive count stunts winning streaks, and sets the track for longer losing sessions.
