Yes, good ideas. but only in DAS for the 4s, and only on an H17 table for the others.

For 6D DAS, you should split 4's vs a dealer 5,6.
For H17, you should double A8 vs. 6, and 11 v A, however if you don't it is only a very small error, and increases variance. I use 6D DAS S16 rules, even if it is H17.

To sum up the article (which I agree with), there is no reason to change your strategy for any multi-deck game (2-8 decks). I don't double on 19 v. 6 because people at the table get mad at me. Doubling an 11 v. A is thought of as a "gutsy" play but the advantage is with you most of the time--I think the true count index is plus one, or something. Splitting 7-7 v. 8 and 6-6 v. 7 in double deck are very borderline plays that really only pan out if you get double opportunities. 18 vs. 2 and 9 vs. 2 are other tough ones; I sometimes double if I think I have a general idea of the count -- it really doesn't matter.

Single-deck is a different beast and you should learn the strategy for that. Too bad there is so little single deck anymore. If you could do a basic count or composition-dependent strategy you could get almost a break-even game.
