I sometimes play free bet blackjack at either a casino in Indiana or a casino in Ohio. I made a $300 bet at a free bet game at my Ohio casino and took my free split on aces with the dealer showing a bust card. I drew a 10 value card on the first ace, good. The second card I drew was a 6 and I wanted to use my own money to double down however both cards were placed sideways on the aces and sitting at third base the dealer immediately began to draw to a total of 21. I felt I should have been given a chance to double down with my own money on the soft 17 I was not. I spoke with pit supervisor and was told the rules changed about a month ago and made the point that I had no way of knowing and would not have been playing the game otherwise. Normally I have found free bet to be dealt more like Spanish 21 where you can double on the softhands after splitting aces. I checked my Indiana casino and I was told that I would have been able to double the soft 17 after splitting aces. So the net effect was I pushed on my 21 hand and lost my free bet split (overall a push). I felt though that the rule change likely cost me $900. It was at the end of the shoe so I don't know the next cards. So my question is did the casino have a right to make this change to free bet without having it been made clear at the table? The table rules were 3/2 for blackjack and no replitting of aces.

I have only played freebet a few times, the places I have played you weren't allowed to dbl after splitting aces.
To answer your question, I believe the casino has to have the rules posted.

It was not posted that you could not double after splitting aces. The casino manager had to show me their rules at casinocontrol.ohio.gov to prove to me that they hadn't made a mistake.

I see that the wizards free bet strategy card shows a real money double for the free hand on a soft 18 against bust cards. So likely it is not uncommon.

I think this is included for when you split 7s and receive an ace.I think soft doubling after splitting aces is not usually allowed.Quote: supermaxhdI see that the wizards free bet strategy card shows a real money double for the free hand on a soft 18 against bust cards. Has anyone else seen this allowed on freebet?

Absolutely correct. The rare free soft doubles are where you [free]split and then receive the Ace as the second card on your free hand. With splitting Aces, it is the normal no hitting (or doubling) afterwards, but some places will allow re-splits.Quote: Hunterhill...Has anyone else seen this allowed on freebet?
I can see that if they allow doubling after splitting Aces, then the free hand is asis (i.e. as if you'd made the hand splitting the non-Ace). However for the money hand there's a different table you need to use. The one on the wizard site is for normal rules BJ - so you'd have to work it out for the Push-22 rule.

So if they were letting you soft double after splitting aces were they also letting you hit or resplit?

The new rule is if you free split aces you get one card on each ace. Before I could resplit aces and real money soft double or hit after splitting aces.
