Quote: HobiusPlaying 21 last night and stood on a hard 17. Dealer turns cards and also has a hard 17. I decide I want to increase my bet for the next hand so I add $5 to my bet prior to the dealer clearing my cards (which was a push). So there was no intent on my part to cap I was just premature on the bet. No one in the floor said anything, but I was curious did I commit a major faux pas?
Nothing was done wrong there. As soon as the dealer bangs or taps the table indicating a push you can adjust your bet for the next round.
After all, there's a chance you think you have 17 but you really had an 18...now it looks like you're trying to cheat. Imagine if it was the other way around and you actually lost, would you have said "I thought I had 17 and I increase my bet can I get $5 back?" After all, your hand isn't a push/loss/win until the dealer gets to your spot and takes/pays/pushes your bets.
But they'd also shrug it off since it was a push.
No reason to tell the floor about it if they didn't notice.
Makes me wonder how many dumb things go on during a busy, drunken Saturday night. There has to be a lot of innocent mistakes.
Quote: HobiusI guess I don't need to worry about them tracking me down for a harshly worded lecture then. Glad to hear I am not the only one.

You said it yourself, there was no intent to do wrong on your part. Any reasonable person could see that. Of course, not everyone is reasonable be it in a casino, on a forum or in life. Most understand that this is a very monotonous game. There's no reason to worry or feel dumb.
How about doubles and splits? The player has been losing and decides to put up a large bet and wins. In his excitement he starts taking his chips before he gets paid. Yikes!

I have no idea how many times I've done it, because nobody ever said a thing (except for the time I mentioned).
Another reason to not bring it up to the pit is because they're cynical by the nature of their job. They'll hear what you're saying and they'll think about what angle you might be getting at. If you admit you increased your bet on a push before the cards were picked up, and then you did the same thing when you had a losing hand, and then, if caught, say, "I told you I do this by mistake when I have a push, and I just thought I had a push" then it looks like you were setting them up. Capish?
And welcome to the forum.
