My question is - how do the odds of the dealer's hand change after he checks the hole (unsuccessfully) for a blackjack with an ace up hand? Should this effect my possible doubling/splitting on my hand in any way? I feel that if the dealer doesn't have blackjack, it must surely change my odds; I cannot help but wonder if it should change basic strategy. Please assume a six deck shoe for the purpose of my question. Thanks!!

No, if the dealer has a BJ, they flip it over the hand ends right there. So it has no effect on your strategy going forward.

I think he is asking if there should be strategy changes between the American peeking rules, and the European no hole rules. The answer is yes. For example, if the player peeks for a BJ, you should split eights against an ace. If he doesn't, and you stand to lose everything against a blackjack, you would hit two eights against an ace. Here is the American and European strategy.

Sorry I didn't make myself clearer. What I am trying to ask is if the dealer has already checked for blackjack,
and doesn't have it, does that make any changes to the way I should play any given hand ? For example, should I double if I have an eleven? or a ten? BTW, I'm a female, wiz!!! lol

think about what youre asking. basic strategy applies for after dealer checks for blackjack and finds that he doesnt have one. theres no decisions to made if dealer has blackjack. the hand is over and you either lose or push. since there are no decisions to be made, there is no need for any strategy. make sense?

The strategy cards you're going to find available in the US are based upon US rules. If the dealer finds a ten in the hole, everybody immediately looses. So the strategies are ALREADY based upon the dealer not having a ten.

Does that help?
