EDIT: In no way did I ever mean to imply the WIZARD or this website was invading anyone's privacy. I was speaking of the internet in general and the weird email I received form the DBJT after posting here. Long live the WIZARD!!!

I am going to be retiring from the forums here. I posted a screenshot of my blackjack quiz results and within moments received an email from the detroitblackjack team (DBJT) website asking me to take down my results. I have no idea how they knew who I was as my email address was pixelated. This issue raises concerns for my privacy both as a blackjack player and as a member of this forum.

Ace - Hate to lose you on this site, the time and date were on your screen scrape, I'm guessing someone on this forum is part of that group (or runs the web site) and since I doubt that many individuals submit responses to the quiz, it was pretty easy to figure it out from their end.

They just emailed me saying that is how they figured it out and because they said they rarely see 14/14...still, in all, it is disconcerting and I will sorely miss the day to day exchanges I have had on this site with the wonderful members. but, if it is that easy for someone to figure out my email address, then they can likely figure out who I am in real life as well - and that scares me.

You gave them your email address. They didn't figure it out, they only tied two pieces of information together. I think you are overreacting, but retiring from a forum can have other benefits, such as free time seemingly appearing out of nowhere.

I also don't think that WoV had anything to do with it, except that you posted information on a public forum that could be used by a 3rd party to identify you. WoV was not compromised.

I understand your concern, but they had that same information (you email address) when you submitted your quiz. I don't think anybody here has that information. If you are really done, good variance to you going forward!

Correct, but it wasn't the email address that tied it together, it was the score, time, and date that were not pixelated. I don't think you would have received the email had you pixelated the time and date.

You regularly post play-by-play accounts of your sessions in specific AC casinos, named specifically in your posts and including actual dollar results. If I had the motivation, I could figure out who you are. I'd be far less concerned about the DBJT having your email (that you voluntarily gave them) than I would about blatantly outing myself every time I take a trip to AC. If you're concerned about privacy, that's probably a good place to start.

Jeez, Ace, chill out. Nobody 'found' you, its because you
gave them your email and somebody put 2 and 2 together.
Nobody is out to get you, you're not even a little fish, you're a
guppy in the ocean. I've been on forums for 20 years, 1992,
and if you don't want to be identified, don't give info like
your email address.

If you quit, they've won. Thats what they want you to do, think
they're all powerful and send you quivering under the bed with
your tail between your legs. Don't do it.

These sort of things are why I use free email accounts like hushmail with no telling info like my real name. I will sign up for anythiing under these accounts. also if you don't log in once every three weeks it expires. Then the next time a site wants my email I just open another free account.

Maybe they just didn't want the screen of the results posted -- maybe it had nothing to do with you per se, and they were just contacting whoever posted the screenshot...

Granted, it means someone there was following that thread, but that's not surprising if they're watching their web logs and see a bunch of incoming requests from the WoV forums coming from the link at the start of the other thread.

it was indicated to me they were greatly interested in where these quizzes were coming from. He found out! And he was right to ask you to take that down btw

They asked me in an email how I found the quiz, and I told them WoV.

Someone came here and saw the screenshot. It's not much of a quiz if the correct answers are posted, that's probably why they asked you to take it down. They surely found you through the date and time. 20 people took the quiz that day, according to the email I got; it most likely wasn't very hard to figure out who you were, through simple correlation. Especially for a math/cards guy/gal.

They don't CARE! They don't give a crap. Ace is
small potatoes, he loses, he wins, he loses he wins.
He's no threat, and thats if they even know he exists.

The paranoia around here is astounding. Look at that
Church BJ team, they got thrown out of hundreds of
casinos, the one guy said he eventually got thrown
out of every casino he played in. Did that stop them?
They kept going back and back, two of them are still
playing today.

Get over your bad selves, casinos aren't the big bad
wolf waiting to eat your children. They're a bunch of
under educated underpaid suits watching the clock
to see if their shift is over yet.

Ace isn't worried about the Detroit Blackjack Team, he's worried about internet privacy in general, and the integrity of this site.

I've tracked down a few people in my time, and frankly it isn't hard to do. I might not be the best blackjack player in the world, but the only reason for that is that I don't care. If I care about something I can do it.

The site doesn't matter; it is the sum of your internet activity, whether you use the same screen name among forums, stuff like that. When I found out that someone on a Harry Potter Fan site was emailing my daughter, when she was 12 (she's 21 now; I'd installed keylogging and screen capture software on her computer for her own safety, and told her it was there), I found out the guy's name, address, email address, where he worked (elementary school teacher, go figure), and his phone number. And I emailed him, told him I was the girl's father, shared what I knew about him, and told him that I was watching him. And it stopped, and he vanished from that forum as best I could tell.

I tracked down mkl654321. I'm not saying. It took about 3 hours. I tracked down tuttigym. It took about 20 minutes.

If you want privacy, stay off the internet. Completely. The only thing keeping someone from tracking you down is that most people don't care.

Mike -

I do NOT think that Ace was accusing you or anyone at WoV of anything.

I kinda though he was looking for your reaction to his decision to leave the forum, like maybe he'd reconsider based upon your opinion of whether he's too paranoid or not.

Ace -

I've lead a fairly clean life, and have no real knowledge of what you have done that is causing you to freak out. Therefore I have no way of knowing if you're overreacting or not. However, something in my gut tells me that you ARE overreacting. Please reconsider. Stick around.

Sorry; I misunderstood what you were saying. You're a good member and I hope you'll change your mind about leaving the site.

I misunderstood too and PM'd the Wiz. blame me, not him. And if you leave, I have people in AC who owe me a favor.

I've lead a fairly clean life, and have no real knowledge of what you have done ...

For the record, I wasn't implying that you did anything.

I know there are at least two people here that are/were bookies. Maybe more. Many members take advantage of various situations that would cause Dan to go on another crusade.

I.E. It's hard to keep track.

Also, when you put BlackJack and Team together, it suggests any of a variety of highly questionable acts.

So with no knowledge of your own activities or what the Detroit BlackJack Team does, I may have made an implication based upon an incorrect assumption. Sorry about that.
I invented a few casino games. Info: http://www.DaveMillerGaming.com/ ————————————————————————————————————— Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁

I have it on good authority that you are spreading the evil message of Rock n Roll to innocent teenagers.

Hey, mine was an innocent statement. I simply meant if you left, I would have to ask someone to track you down and report your
winnings to me and evenbob. Why would you deny use the pleasure of following you actions against the house?

Gee, once a felon, always a felon ? Surely you can see i am a reformed man, can't you !
