I took the quiz last spring. I do count cards....for a living, and I only scored 12. lol In my defense, One of my 2 incorrect answers, I did know, I guess I checked the wrong box. So the real question that I missed was number 8, which incorrect play was the most incorrect (by the numbers). I knew it was one of 2 and guessed wrong. The DBJT guy commented that he was surprised that I missed that one, but really, I knew that all of those plays were incorrect. In my mind that's all I really need to know. I guess if you are a cover guy who makes occasional incorrect plays for cover, you should know which incorrect plays 'cost' the most, but I don't do cover. I play short sessions instead, which eliminates the need for cover, so as all I need to know is the correct play for every situation, not which one is more incorrect. lol

Obviously I did it too. Haven't check mail yet and definately will be watching for any team play while in town. On question 6, I would have a different answer though, depends on penetration.
I assumed it as a general question meaning at a newly opened table...

I don't use cover either except if absolutely necessary. Most main floor shoe games aren't that closely monitored for cover to be useful, but in high limit rooms with pit personnell watching because there isn't much action going on, its a different story.
I avoid high limit rooms. I walk by HLR and see 2 dealers standing at empty tables with 4 pit folks standing next to them talking. That is too high a ratio of 'eye' to player for me. I stick to the $25 and $50 tables on the main floor. The only advantage to the HLR is that occasionally places offer slightly better rules (although almost never better penetration). Giving up the slightly better rules for less scrutiny and longevity is a trade off I am willing to make.
Then again I knew I would suck.
The Wizard likes quizzes and we havent heard from him!
I liked the quiz though, the way it throws in a lot of stuff you have to ignore, to go for the meat of the question.
And there was no stuff that could have been ignored.

"Off the top of a new shoe, you get a multi-card 16 like 4/5/3/4. You should:"
I actually thought this was to stay no matter what. You have taken 4 cards that can help you.
Quote: soulhunt79"Off the top of a new shoe, you get a multi-card 16 like 4/5/3/4. You should:"
The 16 vs. T hand is well known to be marginally between stand and hit. So if you hold small cards, it shifts towards stand for the reasons given above. This of course depends on the number of decks - but the author of the question neglected this kind of information - and thus "stand" is the obvious answer.
The Wizard is The World's Greatest Blackjack Player. This test is probably beneath him. He would probably get a 28/14 and foul the website's servers.Quote: odiousgambitThe Wizard likes quizzes and we havent heard from him!
Quote: rainmanSpades can we see your previous 4 attempts :) just kidding.
OUCH!!! I think it is one quiz per email - although I suppose someone could set up multiple email accounts but I am much too lazy for that LOL

Wizard I accidentally hit flag on that please disregard my stubby fingers lol
I'm guessing that I scored 11/14, I feel like I should have gotten 13 of them, (and stabbed in the dark at one completely) but for some reason, it is always the tests I feel unconfident about that I do very well on and perform slightly worse than expected when I do feel confident.

Mine took less than 12 hours to get to me.
Quote: Mission146About how long does it take to get the results?
I got mine fairly quickly. Within a few hours.
I especially liked the game show host question (do not want to give away too much for those who haven't taken it yet) which basically asks:

Mother-effer! I didn't realize that was what the question was actually asking. Although I feel pretty dumb, I answered correctly anyway even though I thought I was just guessing.
No results yet but I think I should get a 13 or 14. The "which of these marginally bad decisions is least bad" one I narrowed it to 2 out of the 4 and kind of guessed.

I wish I would have thought that one through, the question is pretty convoluted.
Even so, I ended up with 12/14 - so the quiz can't be that hard. I've only been playing for about six months.
Question 1 - I picked (A) even though the terminology of "due" is loaded and usually used by ploppies. I screwed up as when I read "not a single 10 on the table" my head immediately went to "each of those cards is +1 to the running count!" which is of course stupid (could be plenty of 7/8/9s). Anyway, should have realized they never would want a smart person to pick an answer that uses the word "due" (or just not chundered the count logic).
Question 2 - I picked (B), again stupid. Was just thinking that basic strategy is always the best. True, for that player, not necessarily the rest of the table. At least I didn't pick A.
Got the rest right.
I may sign up for an account just because you can never have too many AP resources at your disposal. I can't imagine I'll ever live in Detroit though.
I just registered here to say hi and thanks to everyone who stopped by. We had quite a surge in traffic just from this-here link and over the last few days I personally hand-scored and emailed back more than 40 of these quizzes. Usually we get a couple a week, LOL, so you can imagine I was busy keeping on top of it for a while.
(The way the quiz script works is, it just creates a file on our server and nothing is automatically emailed out. That way the script cannot be hijacked to send spam. But the downside is, I have to manually retrieve and score and mail back the results to everyone. So this also means if you tried to 'hack' the script on the quiz page in order to take the quiz but NOT put in any email address, what I ended up with for you is a quiz file with no email to reply to. So, if you did that and didn't get a reply, now you know why...)
Anyway, the quiz is really just for fun and I'm glad y'all liked it. It's meant to be a bit sticky in some parts -- JUST to make you THINK, if you're already an AP, and (more important) to point out that there is a LOT to LEARN about actually beating this crazy game -- beyond just memorizing a BS card -- if you're just starting out learning to count, or if you're still just a ploppy-type player (although I hate that term & rarely actually use it...)
I also wanted to point out that our website is NOT intended to be like other blackjack sites on the 'net... not like this board here (thanks Mike!) nor like bj21 or the old bjinfo board or any others. On the contrary, we are an actual, working team in and around the Detroit Michigan area. While our message board may not look very active (as of now, we have only about 100 registrations) bear in mind that there are higher-privilege areas of the forum AND the whole SITE which are not linked anywhere on the net, and which are kept fully private and secure. "Normal Traffic" you can SEE is not always all there is to see, y'know... (and even some visible parts of our site might actually be just 'decoy' info useful for various counter-casino-surveillance purposes... heh).
Also wanted to point out that the whole reason we've been maintaining this "open house" policy for about the last year or so, has been specifically to get a few more folks to join the forum, as "Associate" members, in anticipation of launching a new "Stage Two" project to expand our operations and grow the website into something entirely bigger and better, which (to the best of my knowledge) has never been done before in the 'blackjack world' online...
I'll be making an announcement about that, what we have in mind, what's planned, etc in the very near future -- probably before the end of the year.
The plan was to get at least 100 registrations and then CLOSE the Open House and start this new project, but due to the surge from this QUIZ link, we've now already broken thru the 100 user mark a bit EARLY... but I'm not ready yet with the other info! LOL, I was expecting to get to 100 only about the end of this year.
So anyway if you're even a little interested in hearing about that, especially if you're located in the Midwest area near Detroit, and if you have not yet registered on our forum after taking the quiz, I'd highly recommend doing so as soon as possible, since the door is closing very soon.
This "news", when it comes, will only be posted inside our forum, for site members only...
I'll try to check in here on Mike S.'s board from time to time too, but I may not be able to participate much here, as it's a full time effort just managing our own site. I'm "around" too on bj21.com, inside Green Chip, & some of you know me from there, but really the best place to reach me is on our own site. Anyway thanks again for the link to our little quiz, glad y'all liked it, and "good variance" to everyone here: paint on yer aces! ;)

Out of ALL the quiz files we received in this surge, a few (maybe 3-4) resulted in bounce-back errors on the email addresses.
The JavaScript in the quiz form *does* test that you've entered a properly-formed email address in the box, BUT it cannot know for sure if what you typed really IS your correct email address!
If you type it wrong, you won't get your quiz results back when I try to email them to you.
So if you're one of the 3-4 or so who took the quiz in the last week BUT you've never gotten any result back yet, probably that's what happened.
Try it again but double-check that you're TYPING your own EMAIL address CORRECTLY before hitting the Send File button!
Thx,
-JC
Just curious tho, how did people taking the quiz coming from this site do, compared to the general public? I'd think scores would be better for people familiar with the Wizard's work vs just clueless plops? or no?
>>> how did people taking the quiz coming from
>>> this site do, compared to the general public?
That's a good question, and honestly I don't know. I suppose I could try to break down the most recent quizzes we've received JUST since this thread started and compare them to the overall total of all quizzes we've received so far, to see if people here are doing better than average.
But on the other hand it's a pretty small data set so it'd probably not be statistically significant. And anyway, there's also no way to know for sure if ALL the recent quizzes came from links from here (although I'm pretty sure most of 'em did). So the data isn't "clean" anyway.
But, I dunno. Might be. If I get a chance soon, I'll take a look at the files and see if it looks like there's anything there.

I'm just "bumping" this old topic today, 'cuz it's a little over a year later and we just recently hit 500th person to take our little blackjack quiz online :-)
Our website forum's "open house" period has ended now (note the recent announcement posted here) but the QUIZ is still available, of course.
If you play blackjack and haven't tried our quiz yet, it might be an interesting exercise: see how much you REALLY know about this crazy game ;-)
