But yesterday I saw the single worst play ever- Saw a guy double on SIX against a dealer ten. I mean, even pulling a ten would only give him a 16. I gotta tell you that I was almost disappointed when the dealer busted, part of me would rather have lost than see his stupidity rewarded. How does a guy sit down with a couple hundred to play a game that they have no clue about?
What are the worst plays you guys have ever seen?
Quote: NewAPAt my local casino, for some reason there are more bad players than I have ever seen. On numerous occasions I've seen someone double down a 12 or 13 against a dealer ten. Recently I saw someone double a nine against an Ace. This guy was the single worst player ever, and to make matters worse he had some young guy who i assumed was his son that kept angrily blurting out "that's b.s." after every idiotic loss, as if the casino was cheating him or something. I was quite happy when he lost his arse, I must admit.

The worst play would be staying at a table where you were constantly being annoyed by other's bad play (which has zero affect on your game). Back when I first started, I was guilty of making comments to others about their lack of basic strategy knowledge and "bad play" - as I thought it actually affected me - it took me a long time to get over this hangup.
But, as for "bad plays" I have seen in my "career" - the worst was someone doubling a hard 16 against a Dealer Ace (the person rationalized it saying that, since the dealer checked and did not have a blackjack, that the odds were now in his favor) - the player got dealt an Ace (ughhhhh bad play reinforcement) for a 17 and the dealer overturned a 7 for an 18
Still boggles my mind!!!
But that aside, doubling on 16 against dealer Ace.....yes I think that may be even worse than doubling on six against a ten.
George, the greatest BJ player ever, has occasionally made this same play. Unless you are sure of the composition of the remaining cards in the deck or decks, do not be so quick to judge !!
Quote: NewAPThank you captain obvious, of course I realize that others bad play has zero effect on my game!!! I don't follow the ploppy logic. Why would you start off with the assumption that I don't know that? Did I say it affected my game?

WOW! NewAP - I shall refrain from ever commenting on anything
you post ever again. Sorry to have offended you.
Obviously we have an new expert in the forum ,and I for one will bow to a superior intellect.
that doubled-down on a hard 20! The dealer tried to talk him out of it, but the
player insisted.
Of course he was dealt an Ace for a 21.
Double down on a hard 20. Beat that!

There's no need to get snippy. Why are you keeping track of what everyone else does? It does affect the game because if everyone played perfectly the rules would be worse.
We need poor players!!!
Quote: buzzpaffYes Aceofspades, this is a forum. However ,please refrain from making intelligent observations in the future.

Buzzpaff - I realize that my knowledge and experience at the blackjack tables all these years has rendered me but a mere novice in the presence of the god-like skills of the new expert. If permitted, I will run all future posts by him in an effort to remain in good stead hereon.
That was me at the Union Plaza back around 1974. I will always remember it. Other than that .... lot's of bad plays ... some won ... some lost.

I had a well known singer playing Bj one night...a bacholer party type deal..
Singer decides he is going to play every spot on table...I let him
He is playing anywhere from $500-$2000 /hand...
He starts to loose and decides that 1 hand at $4000 is the answer....(let the shit storm start)
$4k bet....BJ for player....before my dealer could pay him, the singer says "I wanna split that"....
I ask him if he means he wants to double...he screams at me, "no, I said I want to split"...me "you realize that is a BJ?"...
him " no shit, I split this all the time"...me "what?"...
My boss looks at me and says "huh...why not"
So we let him split the BJ....total bet now $8k....
Singer gets 18 and 19.....Dealer draws 4 card 21....
I could write a book on what happened that night, but that is by far the worst thing I have ever seen.
Best part is that there was about 200 people standing around to watch...now the joke is "hey you wanna split your BJ?, we will let you". lol
Quote: ShiftyRickySo we let him split the BJ....total bet now $8k....
What??? You can't split a blackjack- against the rules.

exactly!
It is sometimes true...celebs can do jsut about anything.
We really don't let this happen...it was an...okay just do it, so he shuts up and plays type of deal.
Quote: NewAPListen dumb-ass I never said I was the new expert. You lead off your post, knowing nothing about me, with a super condescending statement that assumed I knew nothing. Get a clue dumb fuck.
Countdown to suspension.....5.....4.....3.....
Quote: NewAPGood thing you are that as his butt buddy ready to stick up for your boyfriend when I point out that his condescending tone is unappreciated. I am guessing that you are both overcompensating for something. To keep it in Blackjack terms, lets just say that you are both betting with an unusually small unit size and as a result, your partners are experiencing a low percentage of penetration, and thus, the EV of the activity for them is roughly zero.
...2...1...

Only in an Idian casino could you do that and still be operating LOL
In regulated places, a player can not violate the rules, nor are you allowed to allow someone intoxicated
or feeble minded to bet. Crazy Horse was right, white people are stupid !
Hello everyone- first let me say great site! I have been a Basic Strategy Player for 15 years and only recently made the leap to AP about a month ago. I've spent dozens of hours reading this forum and the now inactive blackjackinfo forum and the insight that many of you guys possess has been tremendously helpful. It amazes me in hindsight how I played with so little knowledge for so long (though I had amazing luck, fwiw).
Gee we haven't changed that much, have we ? Drop the attitude and enjoy some heated discussion.

Buzz, we are regulated, and I suppose you have never seen any REGULATED casino let...how is it you said it.."someone intoxicated
or feeble minded to bet." Your right, we should close the doors....with all of VEGAS and every casino in the WORLD.
and yes I agree with you that white people are crazy!!!

so, is this guy for real? lol
And of course the Indian counsel that has the final appeal, well, General Custer asked for a stay of execution. LOL
On a more serious note, anybody know the latest on that mountain being carved into Crazy Horse on a horse.
I believe the 4 faces on the monument would all fit in the crook of Crazy Horse's elbow ??
No doubt there is some intelligent folks on here like Lonesome Gambler and KewlJason but toolbags seem to be outnumbering them, based on my short stay here which will no doubt be ending shortly lol.
Quote: NewAPYes, that was my post. FWIW the good posters far and away seemed to be at the blackjackinfo forum and I was just making nice since I was new here. Since then, every thread I've posted has backfired. Should be able to post what I saw as a humorous thread without some self-congratulating dead-nuts loser with a small pecker pointing out that bad plays don't affect you chances negatively as if you're some kind of moron that needs correcting. Never did I say that they did. The assumption that you're an imbecile is not appreciated by anyone I would imagine. Gee, I got a 1430 SAT (out of 1600, not 2400) but I am incapable of deducing for myself that a bad play is just as likely to help me as hurt me. And then there's you and others rushing to his defense like a bunch of junior high girls in a catfight when I express my displeasure with the condescension.

WOW - I don't think anyone saw my original response as condescending but you - and why all the allusions to penis size - methinks you doth protest too much.
Quote: NewAPYou come up without that witty response all on your own or did your boyfriend Aces help you? You know they ought to pull the plug on you instead- 3500 posts and from what I've seen not much to contribute other than a bunch of sorority gal drama in defense of your bf aces. Does you sticking up for Aces make him more likely to (virtually) fellate you later tonite? Those man-boobs you have grown over years at the blackjack table no doubt go quite nicely with your obvious feminine side.
How do you know it is only "virtual"? LOL

Nice try shakespeare (or should I say "ShakesaShortSpear") but the fact remains that in the pants, you'll always be a red-chipper.

Unlikely. He said not one word about roulette, he did not say "lol" even once, and his sig line wasn't longer than seven of his posts strung together.
Another story:
One guy claimed I shouldn't hit on soft 18 but the strategy says to do it.
All I said :" You must know something I don't "
Quote: DonPedroStanding on hard 9 betting 3 blackchips and won w/ a dealer bust.

Did you happen to notice if hitting would have cost him the hand based on the next cards out?
