My birthday is October 17th. I'm going to spend it in vegas (not intentionally...I'm attending a conference from the 18th-21st). This summer, I've been spinning through free play at local casinos and setting aside the resulting cashable value to build a bankroll for my trip to vegas. I'm a table games player, so I'm never quite sure what to do with my free slot play. Usually, I go for a small number of high value spins. But that didn't seem appropriate for this purpose, since I will have less to play with in vegas if the remainder is 0 after my spins. I went to the casino yesterday with $75 to play through, and I hoped to have about $50 when I was done playing through it. I thought about playing VP, but I just don't like it much. I settled on playing my grandma's favorite game: pterydactyl triples. It's a $.02 5x3 slot game. The bonus is only available if the max is bet ($2 total bet) and the bonus involves 8 free spins where the player collects eggs to potentially win one of 5 possible jackpots.

I managed to hit the bonus twice in my 37 free-play financed spins. On the first bonus, I did OK, and won the mini jackpot ($13). I was happy about that. Then I hit the bonus again. I collected two eggs toward the 3 needed for the maxi jackpot ($1350) on the first two of the eight free spins. Then I got literally nothing until the 8th spin, and I was sure that it set me up for a near-miss scenario. On the 8th spin, I got the 3rd egg for the maxi jackpot. The jackpot then retriggered (for $1000 each time) 6 times. I won $7400 on a $.02 slot machine yesterday afternoon. Umm...Vegas, here I come?

Congratulations!

Pity you don't like VP--it's by far the best way to cycle free play. Even if you have no idea what you're doing, it's 5-10 times better than the best slot machine.

What I've done in the past after an unexpected win like this is somehow squirrel away 50-75% of it, and then blow the rest. One time, I paid off my car; another time, I paid my rent one year ahead.

You could have one HELL of a time in Vegas with $2400...

It just gets repetitive. I know JOB strategy pretty well, but it's just too rote for me to WANT to do it. Kind of like basic strategy BJ. It's more like work than like entertainment.

I'll probably do something similar. Pay the next year's condo association dues, replace my ancient cell phone, pay down the student loans...and still have about $3k to take to Vegas.

Especially when the company is paying for the food, car, and hotel:)

Funny, slot machines seem repetitive and boring to me. Of course, if JOB was my only VP option, I might have a view of VP similar to yours--that's the most boring version of VP that exists.

Wow, four days in Vegas with three grand, and no overhead....the mind boggles. Say hi to Ginger the masseuse and Tiffany the exotic dancer for me.

JOB is actually great for freeplay. I always use it, because its variance is so low you can usually come pretty close to the expected return. It's the only time I actually have fun playing it, because like you said, it is incredibly boring.

I reiterate not taking the whole winnings to Vegas. I'm sure you weren't going to do that, anyways.
