On vacation in San Jose, Costa Rica. Casinos are small and feature older video slots. One casino had a jackpot for hitting five ladies in a row on the 40 line White Orchid video slot(with max bet). They had ten of these games set up in a row. This game you can win by 1024 way scatter and by hitting on one of the 40 normal lines. Couldn't be a scatter win or during bonus round for the jackpot. Watched one upset lady that thought she hit but it was a scatter win. It was a one Colone game, so max bet was about 80 cents U.S, or 400 colones. PLayed last night for an hour, won 70 bucks. Bonus meter was at 100,000 colones, or 200 Dollars. Stopped in briefly tonight, jackpot was up to 226,000 colones, or 450$. Only put in 10 dollars equivalent. Played approx. three minutes and hit the five ladies TWICE! On a payline! Won 226,000 colones plus 90,000 for the regular win, for 316,000 colones, or 620$. Hey, thats a lot for me. I always bet minimum in vegas, but here was able to hit max bet because of the conversion rate! Off to eat a steak.

Fun! Slots in South American countries are a great deal. (See my blog).

Which casino were you in? I played some craps and blackjack in The Horseshoe about a month ago. My friend (who has rarely gambled) got on a helluva streak playing blackjack and even got a blackjack on his $25 match play coupon (The Horseshoe lets you play one of these per day). He had lived in Guatemala for about 5 years and was surprised as hell that you could actually win money in a Central American casino and walk out without getting in some sort of sticky situation. Of course by the end of the trip he came to the conclusion that CR is A LOT different than Guat in a lot of ways.

I never played slots because I don't know about regulations there and figured they would be at ridiculous payback rates...apparently that's not the case. I did see 9/5 DDB at another casino in Jaco and thought that wasn't too bad.

Oh, and to the people who saw my posts about topless blackjack in the other threads...they didn't have it anymore. :(

That's the State run slot parlor, right? Looked pretty cool, but I never went in there because as I mentioned I was afraid of central American slots. I stuck a few colones through a Del Rey machine while drinking a beer once, but that was it.

Anyways, congrats on the big win. 300,000 Colones was probably enough to fund your trip down there, I imagine. At least food and drink, anyways. Pura vida!
