While visiting Horseshoe Casino in Southern Indiana, my wife and I were getting kind of beaten up at Craps. With a combined buy-in of $180 at a $5 minimum table, she was down to a couple bucks and I had about $60 left, and we decided to head off for lunch. She went to play a slot machine while I was doing my last hurrah...

I check changed a red to five whites, and tossed one to the center with a call of "Midnight."

Nine.

Another dollar, "Midnight returns."

Six easy.

Another dollar, "Midnight again."

Shooter hits a twelve. Thirty bucks! Nice return, eh?

"Parlay it!"

I've done this last hurrah with 5 whites for the past few visits at the Craps table. Now, I am COMPLETELY aware that I could do a lot better dropping a dollar straight up on a Roulette number, and parlaying for 35 times 35, while Craps only pays 30 times 30. I get it.

So shooter gets the dice pushed to him, and makes a half-short roll. The first die tumbles just past the middle, with a 6 face-up.

Tumbling and bouncing to the other end, the other die careens and makes its stop on a 6.

"YES! YES!" I was high five central, dealers and players were cheering for me. They start cutting the chips out for the payment.

Here comes my wife, saying, "What is going on?"

"I just won 900 bucks!"

"Holy shit!" Yeah... that's the way I felt too! :)

She hugged and kissed me, then pulled back. "I'm out of here, I must be bad luck!"

I laughed and said, "No, no, stay here. I'm down with my bet, color me up!" With the leftover chips I had, I came away with $984... and that was after a $25 tip to the dealers, and a $25 tip for the shooter. Almost an Orange... but close enough for me.

Congratulations, cool way to win it!

I might have tipped the dealers a little more on such an unexpected win, but there are those who would have tipped far less, or nothing. I can't really fault you there.

Do you always plan to parlay Midnight if it hits, or was that a spur of the moment decision?

Yes, I always parlay. First time hitting the back-to-back.

I was in Mississippi last year at one casino, and back-to-back snake eyes hit while I was doing it. Kinda made me sick. At a different casino that same day, I hit the first twelve, but lost on the next roll. It was exciting for those few moments, everyone was pulling for me too.

Not to turn this into a tipping protocol argument, but I do want to also clarify that I had made (and won) some toke bets for the dealers while playing, and also threw in my whites at the end of my session when I returned to the table later. They likely got another $15 or so from me overall. They sincerely expressed appreciation to me for all the tokes.

That's definitely good toking, then!

Believe me, dice dealers are always appreciative of a $25 "hand-in".
