One thing you really have to do in any sort of casino play is view each session independently. Just because you won at the session before or lost at the session before does not mean that the next session will make up for the prior loss or contribute to further winnings. It's when people start "chasing" losses risking amounts that are not called for by the session's cards that the casino really cleans up and total losses occur. Avoid that sort of thing, and your success rate will be, at worst, commensurate with the house edge.

I really don't believe that big losers wind up losing just the house edge - they end up losing mass sums trip after trip. I mean, I know of at least a few casino players who have dumped millions over the years with no winning years at all. How do explain someone's dumping tens of millions or even over a hundred million in just one year, with not even that many hours of play relative to the loss? It comes back to someone's willingness to lose every penny in a finite bankroll even on a flat coin toss - if you vary your bet wildly and are determined to bet until you lose it all, you will. It sounds silly - that someone would be determined to lose it all - but if you watch some big bettors that is exactly what they seem to be intent on doing.
I tell you it’s wonderful to be here, man. I don’t give a damn who wins or loses. It’s just wonderful to be here with you people. https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/betting-systems/33908-the-adventures-of-mdawg/

I see that all the time whenever I keep swinging by the bac room or other HL areas frequently throughout the evening, large and redundant buyins being lost with a huge contributory factor of table time and constant wagering.

Oh yes, most win for a bit but they give it all back then the chase and the emotional upset begins and continues. Out of 100 players I would have to say at least 95 falls into that rut on an average night.

    No two ways about it.

    Day 114 play

Played DD Blackjack only. 200 - 1000 spread. Did not play long, short session only, maybe four shuffles?

    Day 115 play

DD blackjack only, 200 - 2000 spread. Played a couple of hours, managed to win more of my larger hands, than not.

On one of my 2000 hands I got aces against a 5 up for the dealer, split them, and got another ace but...at this particular casino's high limit DD you may not resplit aces (there is a DD in Vegas where you may resplit aces on a DD game, and the same MAY be negotiated with at least one other casino in town for a private DD game), and...wouldn't you believe it, I got another ace, and then a lousy 5 on the second ace. So I had two hands out there now, 2000 each, adding to 12 and 16. Dealer ended up four card busting though, and not even with a face card. That just goes to show, the count was great, and not even one face or ten had appeared on the prior hand, and yet...not one face or ten appeared on the next hand either! Count or anticipated sequence based on prior cards isn't everything, but I still won the hand.

I'm willing to present a side Challenge. If anyone doubts that any one, just any one of the Session reports I present during this trip is not entirely accurate, throw down a red flag! Put up a mere ten grand in cash, let's work out how to verify the Session to your satisfaction using the Wizard as the judge, and winner takes the twenty thousand.

I'll contribute five hundred from my end for the Wizard's time if the Challenger will do the same, so that's a net $19,000. to the winner of this side Challenge.

This Side Challenge remains good for the duration of this particular Vegas trip.

Blackjack is more of a grind, and boring (to me anyway) than Baccarat, and for whatever reason, I feel less comfortable throwing massive bets out there when playing blackjack. But, the consistency is there, and the profit potential is perhaps more of a guarantee for the average player, although, the host isn't going to like it as much comp wise unless you put in the hours of play.

    Day 116 play

All private table, special limits. DD Blackjack.

I was varying from 200 - 1000 and I managed to get about 1500 ahead, when I started losing pretty much...every hand, and even playing small at or near my minimum bet, I was losing a fair amount. Count really didn't matter - dealer was getting all the pat hands and aces when I expected them.

After I was down a good solid ten grand or so, I kept waiting and waiting until a sequence came up with a very positive count. 5000 - lost, no stiff in sight when there should have been one (or two, for me!). Count was even more positive, so I laid out 10000. Lost again! Net hand, count was even higher, I laid out 20000 - won. This was not a progression. This was not a martingale. I should have won any one of those hands based on a lot of things, including the count. After that it was a matter of back and forth, although I kept getting stuck at ahead about 10000.

I had a couple of shuffles where I kept winning hand after hand, or at least most of the hands, and I stopped, well ahead.

Looking back, towards the beginning I kept losing all the hands I expected to win, but towards the end, I started winning most all hands, period.

Again, if you really want to know why people lose BIG in casinos, as in lose all the chips in front of them, watch how they act in the last half hour or even last fifteen minutes of their sessions versus the entire previous time they have been seated - these big losers will suddenly dump every chip they have in just a very small number of huge hands. This sudden dumping of an entire bankroll has nothing to do with the house edge. Many gamblers just won't get up from the table until they are to the felt.

Can you really put a price on winning sixteen large in a casino, cashing it all out into a paper bag (didn't feel like dealing with a check this time), having a host throw you a thousand dollar slip comp for their high end steakhouse, and then walking out with the takeout food and the cash, to wherever you're staying, in your fifteen foot ceilinged Vegas Rainman-esque suite?

And everyone was staring at the MDawg. Winningness exudes a powerful aura. (Then again, maybe it was just thugs wanting to rob me of the cash...which led me to go to the bathroom and put the cash in my pocket, and leave just a water bottle in the bag.)

Happens most every night in our casinos at the tables. Extremely very very very few get up and leave while ahead. And if they do, they almost always just come back within hours and play heavier and more aggressive until ultimately they lose it all including additional buy ins.

    Never really changes.

Raiders game was awesome. Especially in person.

Might be heading home - for real this time. Eventually, reality must prevail.

As I believe Ozzy Osbourne once said, "I must. Go home."

Just, giving it a try. I never gave up entirely on Blackjack, had just switched over to mostly Baccarat.

I was able to negotiate some higher limits and a rule or two that favors me for Blackjack at a casino or two, and that's another reason to try Blackjack more lately.

I watched that video you posted about, from Louis Theroux. It was interesting. You obviously observed the last part of the video showing Theroux prepared to put down some of his own money and win at bacc. The guy leading him: "Stan the man" seemed to know what he was doing and, dare I say it, seemed to have a positive expectation of winning. And they were having a good time and came away winners. Theroux won $1500 from his initial $3000 bankroll, giving him a total of $4500. A very good return.

It certainly says something to me about bacc that theroux was investigating gambling and decided to invest his own money in bacc, with someone with a seeming record of winning. But more than that, your winning at bacc and an experience I had at my local. A dealer once said to me that if I wanted a game that was more fun, I should try bacc.

Another reason I started playing more blackjack versus baccarat is that I experience less swings. Blackjack is more of a grind, pressing the bet up when the count is good and I note other factors which come up from time to time, and automatically "pressing into a win" is not what you do at blackjack unless the win came during a favorable portion of the deck.

That is not to say that I don't push all the way to table limit (or even beyond, to my special limit) at blackjack - I do, and I have - but it's just somehow different from baccarat.

Baccarat is probably a more enjoyable game if you are playing the version where you may handle the cards, and the range of emotion I see from players ranges from slamming or flinging down good cards, to ripping bad unwanted cards in half.

Then again, if you watch some male Asian Bacc players you'd be hard pressed to notice any difference between when they win or lose a hand - a strictly poker face throughout for some. This isn't reserved just for Asians either - if you watched Theroux's documentary, Alan the mattress millionaire was like that too - he didn't seem to react one way or another, win or lose.

    Day 117 play

Blackjack only - private table Shoe game - decided to have that set up to play. No special rules (the shoe at this casino already has a very, very low house advantage) - but limits above the normal.

I spread mostly just 200 - 2000 but I did three very large bets to 20000. I lost two smaller ones - won the 20000 bet. Not a martingale just bet it as I called it.

    Day 118 play

DD - private table. Highest bet 19000 (actually meant to drop 20000 but miscounted the yellow chips). Ha.

My smallest bet was 500 for this session. Was spreading 500 - 5000.

Won most all of my larger bets.

I played really hard and was actually trying to clear at least 35000 but when the smoke cleared…this turned out to be slightly lower than my best single session of blackjack of all time.

You don't have to say MD, but I'll ask. When you progress, do you vary your progressions or follow a certain amount? E.g. you may positive progress at x1.5, so $10, 15, 22.5......
    And negative progress at x2.0, so $10, 20, 40....

MDawg assuming you're not a multi millionaire, have you ever thought of taking your bankroll and grinding it out at a progressive pai gow, blackjack, or some other type of table in the hopes of scoring a million dollar payday? It seems given enough time and a large enough bankroll, with smart playing, would push your ability to hit a major jackpot into a favorable position.

The sums I am winning are not life changing for me. For example at a recent session I was showing Baccarat to my goddaughter, she's in town and I sat at my private table with her, pulled about 10K, and showed her how the game is played. I advised her to never gamble, and was telling her that this is just for fun. I ended even, repaid the marker, and that was it - actually, through side tips the dealers won maybe 50, which was more than I won.

One of the casinos is flying all of us in their jet to an out of state football game to view it in a private suite at the stadium. That sort of thing. This is fun.

The other day I met a hedge fund owner who has probably more money than I do, and he was betting smaller than I do. We were comparing notes on how many classic cars we own and their various states of restoration.

P.S. Wellbush, I do not follow any mechanical progression. I do not necessarily bet more just because I lost a prior hand. However, when I win, if I believe that the winning will continue, my pressing into a win will range from increasing each bet 30 - 50% to even tripling each hand all the way to max allowed.

    Day 120 play

Separate session although same day as another reported session. Baccarat.

Played just three shoes at my private table. First two shoes I managed to get up about 20K. Third shoe, I cut it of course, got 14 Banks straight out the gate. No ties.
Pressing 1000 a hand I won over 60K on that run alone. I free handed some more hands, which weren't bad (there were 4 Players, then 6 Banks) but I didn't play them.

    +83K

Note: Lately, for security reasons, session reports are not necessarily presented in real time corresponding directly to the day played.

Took a while to post the pics, probably will not re-post them here. If you'd like to view: MDawg's Football Stadium Experience.

Actually had a convo with one of the hosts, at the event, about how far lifetime ahead I am ahead, which...is just at that one casino alone!

Oh great. It's nice to hear the low down on a real life semi-high roller. Keep it up.
For my efforts, I already have enough comps for a meal! Better than a swift kick up the arse.
Comes from time spent at the table. Crown Casino in Perth, the only casino I have access to, unless I fly 3000km across the country to another casino, have a Crown Rewards program. A card you give the dealer who clocks into a dock whilst you're at the table, and returns it when you leave. Anything you buy from Crown - food, beverage, slots, accommodation, also gets comped onto the card, as long as you present the card of course.
When I say "arse," I even had to think twice. With the new mods, it seems they've become seriously pedantic about anything at the moment. Although, I doubt they'll do anything for that, especially this being a back yard thread.

    DD Blackjack.

It was a Blitzkrieg session. Didn't play so very long, and spread from 500 - 5000.

I got to about fourteen thousand ahead pretty fast actually, then played for a bit, smaller bets, then stopped ahead nicely.

I created the Perpetual COMP Machine thread to discuss how comps work.

Basically, you must be winning to extend a stay in Vegas beyond mere days. Losing leads to a mere 10% comp rate. Breaking even or winning - leads to 35-40% of the theoretical loss in comps.

And then when deciding where to move, we move based on where we might want to stay next, but also based on what an incoming property will give me in terms of promotions, concessions and offers. Obviously fully RFB comp'ed up front, but also - promo chips, etc. The resort we just left promised me $8000. in promo chips upon my return, and the incoming resort is giving me $1500. in promo chips (weak, I know, but this particular resort isn't so very generous with the promo chips, and I don't even play that hard at this new resort).

    Onwards!

    I got this new razor

it is rechargeable and actually heats up a strip within the five-blade cartridge. I have used Art of Shaving stuff for years but not this new razor. I was actually going to say that I am almost more looking forward to shaving with this new device than attending the NY's parties when she walked in looking fabulouso, they did her hair and makeup in the salon downstairs. WOW. She blows away any girl I saw walking around anywhere tonight.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I got this new shaving brush. Stands 7 inches tall. It looks massif next to the silvertip badger (which is, granted, travel size not as large as the ones I have at home).

There is no such thing as a monthly win/loss statement. There are only annual ones. I posted these (not just images but actual video of me logged into my player accounts) for 2018, 2019, 2020, showing all WINS, and they were accepted although one detractor claimed that they might belong to someone else, not to me. Of course that was before the Wizard had observed me play. These annual WIN statements corroborated exactly the aggregate sums I had been claiming in my session reports, for each respective year.

I would be willing to provide the same to the Wizard in confidence for 2021, when available in January 2022.

    DD Blackjack

I pulled about a 10K marker, and playing between 200 - 3000, I actually lost all of it but 500! during a period when the count was really superior, but I lost every hand in a row.

I then left that 500 up (what the h, might as well, the count was still good), and won, parlayed, won, parlayed, won, parlayed, won and got to within a couple grand of even.

I them grinded it out and got 4000 ahead, quite a run from 500, lost about a grand of that, and then quit.

    Day 125 play

    DD Blackack. Playing between 200 - 10000.

Three separate sessions three separate casinos. Lost small (relatively) at one casino, lost big at second casino, won bigger at third casino.

Wasn’t too bad really but it got just a little too late and I was a little too hungry so I gave up before I could make the day net even.

At the third casino was told I tipped out some 3000 via dealer side bets alongside mine. I hadn’t realized it was quite that much. Thought it was more like 1500, but whatever. I did quite well that session.

3000 tipped out sounds like a lot, and it is - but I had a certain goal to win at least the entire loss from the second casino, and I don't think I would have ended up with much more if I had not tipped out. Might've achieved the goal sooner, is all.

    Long day.

    -6550

I couldn’t get my concession taken care of at the second casino but come Monday that will eat up some of the above loss too.

Do I see some 60 thousand dollars there? Some subliminal message?

It's TAKE OUT cannoli. Hence the phrase, "Take the cannoli."

Do I need to spell it out further? Any of my friends to whom I showed the pic got it immediately.

Well, once it is spelled out it's sadly equivalent to explaining the meaning of a poem. All one may say afterwards is, "Oh."

At a recent session someone I have seen at the tables occasionally came up to me and seemed to be angling for some deng. I’ve seen this one before including at one of the sessions where I won about $16K. At that session seemed to be hinting at a handout too, but I gave nothing. This one was also present on a session from a few months ago where I won over $100K. At that session, I was pretty sure the player was actually playing, but now I’m not so sure.

Anyway, I gave the player 100 “to borrow” which placed on my bet. I got a 20 so we won and I just let keep the 100 “won” with my loan. In gratitude bought me a Starbucks cappuccino and brought it to me at the table. I started winning after that I was down slightly at that moment ended up winning. So I think the player is good energy but I’m wondering if this one’s thing isn’t just wandering around high limit Bacc or BJack tables and mooching off players gets to know.

I’ve become immune to these chip hustlers (assuming that is what is going on) over the years, and in fact don’t like anyone sitting down at my table private or not, but in this instance, I figured, why the h not. I gave up a hunny.

Can I put up $10,000 that the side challenge part of your trip reports are "not entirely accurate" in the sense that if I put up $10,000 and you put up $10,000, we both pay the Wizard $500 for his time, I don't net $19,000 as the winner of the side challenge. I net $9,000. As the original $10,000 was mine. That's what the word "net" means. This would be easy to verify by anyone in here who knows the word "net". That would make these trip reports "not entirely accurate". ;o)

Do you want to do it? Are you throwing the gauntlet down? For which session report?

Any of them that say the side challenge will "net" the winner $19,000.

The winner will be "netted" $9,000.

That's what the word "net" means.
