The new Hard Rock Casino in Lake Tahoe has opened, and when I booked a comp'd room, I noticed this disclaimer in the fine print of the hotel reservation:

Quote: Hard Rock Casino Lake Tahoe

Cooler Policy
In order to maintain a safe environment, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino prohibits coolers; boxes; bags or other containers for the purpose of transporting food and beverage on property. In addition, all outside food and beverage is also prohibited. Small, personal-sized coolers no larger than 12" x 12" x 12" to house small quantities of medications or kosher food are permitted. Hard Rock Hotel reserves the right to confiscate any items considered a violation of this policy without compensation.

This is unheard of, right? I know of no other casino hotel with this policy. But maybe it's more common than I realize?

(By the way, if I owned a casino, I'd be delighted to have my guests bringing their own alcohol while they gamble.)

It's pretty common. I don't know if it's the majority or minority of casinos that have such a policy...but I have seen it plenty of times.

Lots of people in the casino don't even gamble. Quite frequently someone will walk up to the bar, order a couple drinks, pay $15, then take their drinks to wherever he's going.

But I mostly suspect you can't bring in coolers because of FOOD....since casinos tend to severely overcharge for food. That's a necessity for the casino, I think, as usually people aren't going to leave their casino to go get food (I'd imagine). I've never been to Lake Tahoe and am not aware of the surroundings [ie: if there are lots of restaurants in walking distance or if it's all deserted]. But by limiting coolers, it basically ensures the casino gets extra $$$ through food. For those who are going to gamble, I'd think a larger sub-set of them would rather get free drinks while playing. I think it's the guys who are there to party who would be bringing in coolers with cheap alcohol...not the gamblers.

Amazing they don't have kosher food in a property that size and considering the location.

Caesars Windsor has a policy like that......it was to stop the people who rent rooms to party in. Too many other paying guests being upset by these folks. Now people still bring in the booze but its nowhere near as open a thing as it used to be.

One has to know that WINDSOR is a hot spot for the American kids to come drink,,,,,19 to drink here and 21 across the river in Michigan. Downtown is just a few blocks to the west of the casino and Friday Saturday nights used to see a influx of 10,000 +++ younger people come to party....it would carry on in the casino hotels once the bars closed for some. They will allow you into the rooms drunk but not into the casino

Pretty common clause, but I've never seen a place enforce it particularly strongly. Cosmopolitan certainly has this kind of language, and I saw a guy wheeling a cooler through the lobby towards the elevators with nobody blinking.

I imagine it is selectively enforced, in case of trouble.

Bunch of troublemakers throw a party, disturb the peace until all hours of the night, and there's a cooler, that's grounds to remove them because they're breaking hotel rules.

A nice older couple with some sandwiches in their cooler that they didn't want to leave in the car overnight, well, no trouble, no problem.
May the cards fall in your favor.

Agreed. They are trying to avoid large parties from going on and I believe it is selectively enforced. I always take a trip to the local variety store to purchase various beverages and snacks for the room upon arrival, and no one has ever given me a hassle despite the policy being in place.

I'm pretty sure Disney has this policy as well.

Yea, the Sands in PA has a signage out front not allowing any outside food or beverage. People bring it in anyway. I did see someone challenged on it but they had sat in the food court and openly ate the outside food there. And they were simply told they couldn't eat the food and had to put it away.

I was in a multiplex when this lady with five kids opened some food and beverage that was store-brought. Soon security had surrounded them. The first thing the guard said was "Lady, I didn't say anything when you brought the food inside, I saw you had a big family, but did you have to sneak into the theater next door as well."

I was just shaking my head.

With the exception of the Orthodox community, most American Jews don't follow kosher diets. Which begs the question of how many Orthodox Jews are gambling in Lake Tahoe, Nevada...

The issue with most of these type of groups are not numbers, but how vocal are they and how much access to the media do they have.

I had assumed Lake Tahoe caters to the San Francisco market which is well known for two things. Homosexuals and Jews. Actually, three if you count homeless benefits but I doubt the homeless are traveling to Lake Tahoe.

The jews and homosexuals control the media in most markets including of course the "national" market. They recently blasted us with the "gay marriage" stuff in case you missed the news.

If it is true that the gays did have control of the media, why did they wait so long to blast us with this stuff? Why didn't they do it years ago?

They had to convince President Obama, and then of course wait for his Supreme Court picks to be on the court. In addition of course the internet came into the market and schools were also changed as both parents needed to work. It's a long story of course, but suffice to say, the gays are here to stay and society has changed using the liberal/Democrats to drive their points of view home, leaving churches and traditional family life way behind and almost gone.

And you blame all this on the gays? Wow. It might be a long story, but it belongs in the Fantasy section of the library.

Gays have been around almost all of human existence. Yet somehow they went from very little influence for thousands of years to controlling everything in only the past five to 10 years?

If you left the church or tradition behind, that is because you chose to do so, not because of any homo, liberal or Democrat made you do it.

I'm sure the same happened in the 1800s with the "freeing the slaves" stuff.

All blame lies with the God hating liberal media. Why hate God? Money. Sex sells. Drugs sells. It's all about the money. And the right to live a selfish lifestyle. Why so many God haters on this site? The right to live a selfish lifestyle!

Why did you decide to hate God just because the media told you to?

As an atheist I don't "hate" god, I simply don't believe there is a god.

As a necessary corollary I conclude that those who believe are deluding themselves.

As a historian, I cannot overlook the role religion played in the development of world culture, but the paradigm is different now, time to drop the chains and leap forward.

What the devil are you religiously rattling on about? Where are you getting this stuff? Television?

If we ought to learn to live with this wonderful thing called gambling, then we ought to learn to live with also religion and science, and every thing else for which a few of us are so damned personally motivated to "throw up the arms about" for profit and childish attention. But, there is no cure for those few who thus desire to waste also others' time and money.

Leap on with your own life if you have nothing to worry about. From what I've seen here, I suspect a broken record would have a better chance of finishing.

Not a good nor proper analogy. Individual freedom isn't the same as "gay marriage". We are now giving "gay" people rights that single people don't have simply because they declare they are married. I'm also against giving married people(man and a woman) special rights as well but that may be to complex for this forum.

I think you miss the points. Society changes, we all accept that. However, this acceptance of "gay" behavior and the concept of being "married" to an individual of the same gender is a new thing which in all honesty I find abhorrent and a step backwards. This certainly isn't the forum to discuss such matters. We still await your explanation of divorce and domestic violence in said "marriages"?

ps: Yes, it can all be traced back to the "gay" control of the media which in turn, controls the ignorant among us and has, in fact, ruined the concept of traditional family values and the educational system.
