Back in October 2013, John Ascuaga's Nugget Casino in Sparks was sold to a group of investors. When I heard about that, I put the place on my list of souvenir chips to get someday, once (if ever) the name of the place was changed and they issued new chips.

I checked into the status just a bit this evening and found that the website has been updated to remove John Ascuaga's name; the url is still janugget.com, but the advertised name of the place appears to now be just "Nugget".

Can anyone who frequents the establishments in Sparks tell me whether they have issued new chips with this revised/truncated version of the casino name? I cannot find anything in the NGC Chip and Token report indicating that new chips have been approved, and the NGC list of unrestricted license holders shows the place as being "Sheltie OPCO, LLC., dba John Ascuaga's Nugget" as if the name of the casino hasn't changed, in spite of what the web site shows. That would appear to indicate that the official name has not changed and that no new chips are in the works, but sometimes I find that I do not follow/understand the NGC documents exactly right.

Any updated info will be appreciated. Someday I need to get back to that area of the state to get chips from the Hard Rock (opening this week in Tahoe, I think) and from Pioneer Crossing in Yerrington, which was sold and changed name from Casino West right after my visit there. In conjunction with that, I'd like to keep up to date on the chip status at the "Nugget" in Sparks.

I'm not sure what the old ones look like, stayed there a few days back and company emails still stay John Ascuaga's Nugget. Will be back in Tahoe in a couple weeks, will most likely make it up to Sparks/Reno. If so ill stop by the pit and ask.

There are a fair number of "old" chips. I posted my souvenir from John Ascuaga's Nugget here, and the set from the Museum of Gaming History's Chip Guide is shown here. There are more than twenty Nevada casinos that have been known as some variant of "The Nugget", and I am interested in if and when the Sparks casino that operated/operates under John Ascuaga's name starts using new chips that do not include his name.

Stopped by a few minutes ago on my way out of town. They still have the same chips as before the ownership change.

Thanks for the update. I'll just keep the place on my list and stop by whenever I make it back to that area. If you happen to see new chips, I would appreciate another update.
