I normally try to go to Biloxi once a year because it is such a long drive. When I go I use to stay at Beau Rivage because I am a Gold member of Mlife and I like their buffet there. Is that the best buffet in Biloxi? Are there any restaurants worth while to try there? What about the different casinos?
I try to stay at places that have an affiliation with Mlife, Total Reward, My Choice. If it is an stand-alone casino then I am not as interested because the gambling places I frequent are Las Vegas, Biloxi, New Orleans Shreveport, Lake Charles, and Reno. Is the Hard Rock casino there affiliated with the one in LV?
Thanks in advance.
Quote: WizardofnothingBest places to eat are at hard rock though / half shell and Ruth Chris - Also the pizza place us the best ever thin crust pizza I have ever tasted[/q
The half shell not located in the casino is better, both the one in biloxi and Gulfport, IMO. Pizza place is pretty good.
Quote: RSIsn't this where the beloved Waffle Houses are?
Waffle houses everywhere in southeast. But yes, In biloxi the concentration is absurd. More waffle houses than McDonald's, one like every three blocks from ocean springs to bay st louis
Quote: WizardofnothingImo those places are disgusting
Yes, the Hard Rock buffet is excellent, great selection of seafood.
FYI THE hard rock Buffett is trash in Biloxi it's not possible that anyone rates it highly
"Pie Five" is the name of the pizza joint at HR and I cannot recommend it too highly, thin crust the way to go. It is a chain by the way though nothing close to me in SWFL.
For seafood try also Mary Mahoney's across the street from Beau/HR.
Quote: sabreHalf Shell Oyster House, in either Hard Rock or the restaurant nearby, is 10x better than anything you'll find in Beau Rivage.
This was the best place we ate in Biloxi...we've been to both the stand-alone and casino versions; both were good. If you think you can get it comped off, go tot eh casino version. If not, I'd rather go to the stand-alone...
The evening rush hour when there was a home baseball game seemed to cause quite a traffic jam in the Beau parking lot--not sure if that has changed; this was last summer (July) when I stopped over on a drive to Florida. Could have been a one night thing but it was not pretty...

Lots of Waffle Houses in the Deep South. Many freeway exits have one on EACH side of the bridge ;-)
Used to have an employee that claimed 'they got good groceries at Waffle House'.

About 20 years ago I looked into getting the Waffle House franchise for Las Vegas. It didn't work out and today there are still no Waffle House's in Vegas. The nearest Waffle House is 234 miles.
Every time I go to one I make a $5 bet with my party whether the waitress will have more teeth or tattoos.

I certainly understand why some don't like Waffle House restaurants. I travel solo and (generally) don't like to eat alone in a restaurant. But I sometimes get breakfast at Waffle House. It's hard to screw up breakfast, Waffle House makes it for you only after you order it, and the service is speedy.
A special pleasure for me (simple mind, easily amused) is to sit at the counter where I can watch the staff prepare the food. A well-run Waffle House with a good staff that works well together puts on a great show when things get busy. It's a breakfast-grill ballet. Also, I notice that staff I ask frequently report working there for years. To me, that says something about Waffle House as an employer. I know the staff isn't pulling in the big bucks, and food service staff can go elsewhere if they are treated poorly.
In 2004 I was involved in a project in the Gulfcoast area of Mississippi. One of the managers at one of the two Waffle Houses off I-10 at exit 50 (Ocean Springs) told me his Waffle House (south side of I-10) had a different district manager than the one on the north side of I-10, even though you could almost see from one to the other. I figured they split the regional manager districts so both had a reason to go to the nearby casinos during overnight visits.
As for restaurants folks claim to be so much better than Waffle House, you never see what really goes on in those kitchens. The assumption -- without supporting data -- is that it is all pristine. Maybe. Maybe not. But, at Waffle House, if servers bump into one another accidentally and your sausage falls on the floor, it never goes back on your plate. Good, bad, right, or wrong, it is all out in the open at Waffle House.
Harrah's now has EZ Bac, joining GN as only installs on the Gulf Coast AFAIK.
$15 minimum, open a lot more than the GN one.
One waitress announced she was going to the local Indian casino and I just walked up to her and handed her an extra dollar for good luck. She only played teh slots so I doubt she wound up in the plus column.
I used to sit near the end of a counter in the Santa Monica Airport. If the bagel fell cream cheese side up, the waitress would pick it up off the floor and say to me as she put it back on the plate "You didn't see that".
Its the old joke about where does the man who inspects restaurants eat his lunch? At home!
I agree on the buffet... it's fairly good.Quote: JIMMYFOCKERYes, the Hard Rock buffet is excellent, great selection of seafood.
Some reviews of breakfast buffets are unrelated to the dinner buffets.
What I hate more then anything there is that with the double platinum card they put a table cloth on the buffet, they also did this at Seminole hard rock and I frigging hate it every time

I previously wrote about my Waffle House experiences, usually quite good. Previous posts by others mentioned food being dropped on the floor (then served), servers' lack of teeth, excessive tattoos, etc.
Today, I couldn't eat breakfast at home because of medical tests, so I stopped by Waffle House. It was the back side of the breakfast rush, and things had slowed down. The discussion I had with the manager may interest gamblers who travel to southern Mississippi or other places where one sees Waffle Houses "every three blocks."
The manager was probably in her mid-20s and reported she worked 8-hour shifts most Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights while attending college. She said her hourly wage paid her about $100/night, but that her tips often matched that. "It paid for my college degree," she told me. Hmmm... $25/hour. Not bad for a part-time, student job.
When I asked about her experience as a Waffle House manager, she gave me a card that directed me to the "whcareers-dot-com" site (or search for "Waffle House careers"). New employees hired as managers are trained by the company and placed managing a restaurant in under 6 months at salaries between $41K and $55K. The company promotes from within, frequently after only 2-to-3 years, with pay between $62K and $85K for its District managers (responsible for 2-to-3 restaurants). Good pay (but, it is a 24-hour-a-day operation). My server, who had worked at Waffle House less than a year (but, with experience at several other national restaurants) said the company had great benefits, calling particular attention to the health insurance. It's a privately held company with a very flat organizational structure (and generous stock options). Heck, the executive vice president doesn't even have an office at corporate HQ (Norcross, GA) because he supervises by working in their restaurants, cooking, serving, and leading by example.
I might be mistaken, but I believe the reason we see so many Waffle House restaurants is not because Waffle House serves food that was dropped on the floor, but rather because it serves its people, both its customers and its employees. You don't have to be a management consultant to figure out Waffle House is doing something right.
As for myself, I still like to sit at the counter seat immediately beside the cash register on a busy morning. The "crew" puts on a great show, and I get to hear folk's (overwhelmingly positive) comments as they pay for their meals.
I don't care for most posts.....
I invite you to share other thoughts that occur to you, to share them with the rest of us.
Guess I'm saying thanks. 2F
Although, I do remember this exchange that happened at a WH somewhere along I-75 many, many years ago:
(Walks into Waffle House with a friend)
Waitress: "Mornin'!"
Buddy: "Morning? It's 6:30 in the evening!"
Waitress: "It's always morning at Waffle House!"
Quote: FleaStiffHard Rock Biloxi made it clear that they are not replacing their human bartenders but have merely installed two drink serving robots near the check in area of the lobby as a way of being viewed as "hip" since there is a Robot Bar in Las Vegas.
Are the drinks free or do you have to put up your credit card? I'm assuming you are talking alcoholic drinks....
Beats me. I got the info from a press release they issued. I understand its sort of a serving area for those waiting on line to register or something. Its really just a "Its being done in Vegas, so we are doing it here" but only for TWO robots, not intending to replace all bartenders. I assume the desk clerks will be expected to 86 repeat guzzlers.Quote: IAchance5Are the drinks free ... s....

Going to be at the HR in 2 weeks, so I'll check out that "drink machine" and let you know......been mostly playing at the Scarlet Pearl in Biloxi, but need to get my tier status back up for the summer at the HR.....

Its two giant robots (really more like gigantic mechanical arms)
You pay and order your drinks similar to the new automatic order machines in mcdonalds
Its takes up most of the wall near the restaurant cafe
Felt like watching the transformers serve drinks imo

IPAD, and you have the chance to tip when paying by card when you order. There is a person who delivers the drink to you after completion.

Is the tip for the person delivering the drinks? Is this near the Hard Rock Cafe or is this set up on the casino floor? I have to check this thing out when I'm over there next weekend.....

As you check in, the cafe is behind you, the robo bar is to your right. Starbucks has been replaced with Dunkin Donuts, and a clothing store replaced with Pie Five, a individual size pizza joint which resembles a Subway in how you pick your toppings, crust, sauce, etc.
I think that is a perfect example of how the Press Release about this largely novelty item functions. It generates some traffic and briefly alters existing traffic patterns as people show up to try out a novelty item but figure as long as they have trekked there out of curiosity they might as well stay and take a flyer in the casino.Quote: IAchance5Going to be at the HR in 2 weeks, so I'll check out that "drink machine" and let you know......been mostly playing at the Scarlet Pearl in Biloxi, but need to get my tier status back up for the summer at the HR.....

Noticed on last trip, you can print a comp for a robot drink.

Has anyone ever gone to the GN in Biloxi?
