I'm contemplating a trip to Harrah's Cherokee and was wondering if anyone here has stayed there? I have been to the casino a couple of times, but I've never stayed in the hotel.

Basically, I have two questions: 1) Which tower is the best? I have heard that Creek is the newest, but on the website, it shows the standard Soco rooms are 100 sf bigger than either the Mountain or Creek standard rooms. Have any of the rooms been renovated recently?

2) I have read on Tripadvisor and other places that the in-room WiFi is spotty at best. Does anyone have personal experience with this? Having reliable WiFi in the room will be an important factor for us. Are there some rooms where the Wifi is OK, or are they all about the same?

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

OK, here is the obligatory joke. It's a bit (but not too much) crude, so I'll put it under a spoiler.

... with an alligator. The bartender says "Whoa, whoa, whoa! No alligators in here!" But the man says, "This is a specially trained alligator. He's quite safe. In fact, he can do a trick." So the bartender says, "OK, show me the trick."

So, the man sets the gator on the barstool. He unzips his pants, pries open the gator's jaws, and puts his junk in the gator's mouth. Then he lets the gator's jaws slam shut!

Everyone in the bar cringes, but the guy hasn't even changed his expression. He looks at his watch, and after 5 minutes, grabs an empty beer bottle off of the bar and brains the gator with it. The gator opens its mouth, and the guy pulls his junk out, and there's not a scratch on it!

Everyone is amazed. Then he announces to the bar, "Now, I'll give $100 to anyone here who can do this!" The other guys at the bar just look at each other and shake their heads.

Finally, a blonde in the back of the bar stands up and says, "OK, I'll do it, but you gotta promise not to hit me over the head with that bottle when you're finished!"

Played there. Didn't stay there. Ate at the DL. Was fine. So have no insights about the hotel side. General customer service was polite and thoughtful.

I've stayed a couple dozen times. Never noticed a real difference in room size or quality among the towers - they're all very nice. It's one of those where the "towers" aren't actually separate. Except for the top couple floors they form a big u shape. Because of the shape of the valley, there are noise issues on the outward facing rooms, especially those that face the street. They have the best view, but you can also hear what you're seeing...

I didn't have a problem using the hotel wifi for work, including joining webinars and VOIP conference calls from my computer. I did have a problem with cellphone reception in the hotel tower and on the casino floor. between the valley and the buildings, verizon's signal was pretty bad.

Have you looked at the room rates? You might want to make sure that either you're picking a free/cheap time or someone else is paying. It's $400/night without much discounting available during peak times.

Thanks for the info, rdw! Good to know about the Wifi. I'm planning to stay there mid-week next month, and I can get comped rooms. I seem to qualify for comped rooms there mid week most of the time, but if i ask about a weekend stay, I just get the middle finger! :)

Should I expect the noise just during the day/evening, or does it persist through the night? Mrs. Joeman would be none too happy if it kept her up. Is any one tower quieter than the others?

I think Soco has the biggest noise problem. I also think it has the best views. The outward facing rooms point directly at highway 19. There's a motel across the street. Most noise dissipated by late evening, but on one trip there were folks in the motel's parking lot and I could hear them talking all night.

Harrahs = Rigged. On top of it, you want to play at a Harrahs on an Indian reservation? LOL. God help the money in your pocket.
Any private business open to the PUBLIC (ie. droned out casinos) cannot have a criminal trespass enforced against an individual without GOOD CAUSE (Disruptive or Disorderly conduct). You will never go to prison for being thrown out of a casino for legal advantage play and then returning because it's simply unconstitutional 'as applied' to the individual. 'As applied' constitutional issues must FIRST be raised in DISTRICT COURT (trial court) to have it thrown out. You CANNOT raise it on APPEAL This is the best kept secret in the world of casinos not just in Vegas but everywhere in the country. Thank me later.

I have been there a few times. I couldn't even make phone calls from my cell in the room. I had to go all the way down to the casino each time. What a pain in the ass.

Other than that, it's a nice place.

Just got back last week. We didn't have any problems with the wifi.

One thing of note is that as part of their 'green' initiative, they offer $20 in slot play (not good on VP) a day (not including check-in/out days) if you forego housekeeping services.
