It can't be used for gaming should it be sold. This is similar to the deed restriction placed on other properties like the Showboat and Atlantic Club. This will allow Icahn to sell the property but not have it compete against the Tropicana.

That pretty much dooms it to fall into a sink hole. What are they going to do, put in a flea market. How can the place even be able to afford to buy the place and not have a casino? They're not getting back the money purchasing the place, making improvements, and renting hotel rooms. Doesn't seem like the future is bright there.

There is only need for about 4-5 casinos in AC... Thats it! The geniuses that dumped 2 billion into the Revel when they know other states would get gaming licenses should be liable for the debt. What a joke that was! If Trump Taj is to reopen and succeed, it needs to be run like the borgata... and without the union bs for waitresses. Make is sexy, hip, classy and cater to the players. Celebrity Chefs / Restaurants, hot waitresses, cool lounges, great entertainment, and comfortable suites/rooms. Not that difficult to understand.

I thought Showboat had a deed restriction that said only gambling facilities can be operated in the property?

Because my University (Stockton) bought the property to turn into a Campus (and turn the hotel section into barracks), but (ironically) the Taj petitioned the courts to enforce the deed because they didn't want to have something that may attract underage people to the area. But, now the Taj is done, and Showboat still sits empty, so now there are even more useless giant buildings in AC....

I hate deed restrictions on principle because it leads to crazy issues like these... I am not saying a new Casino would be a good thing, but restricting it certainly is not good either....

Taj enforced a restriction from decades ago that neither taj nor showboat could open as anything but a casino. Now that taj is closed as well they wish to violate the very restriction they gorced on showboat last year. Rich people all a crock. Only believe in contracts and lawd wen it suits them

Unless something has changed very recently, Showboat currently operates as a non-casino hotel.

Deed restrictions are put in place by dirty politicians who's only priority is to serve the competition.

Update, Icahn decides not to sell Taj. If he sells, he will include a fee option to use it as a casino. Reading this thread might have changed his mind, we'll never know for sure. 😁

Used to be one of the best casino at Atlantic City but with the opening of Borgata think gone wrong. They failed to keep up with the new casino and they face a lot of challenges. From labor dispute to financial problem.
