He contacted security who asked him what machine # it was. They walked to the machine and got the #.
The security officer gave this info over his radio and told them to stay put for a few minutes.
About 10 minutes later a N.J. State Trooper came up and informed him they caught the couple in Bally's!
They were an older couple in their 60's who said, "they were going to turn the phone in." And the NJSP wanted to know what my friend wanted to do about it. He just wanted his phone back. 5 minutes later presto! Up walks a Trooper with his phone.
One time a few of us visited A.C. for a day trip. We were playing our machines and enjoying ourselves. Since it was mid-day during the week we had a bank of machines to ourselves. It seemed that more often then not when someone left their machine with money in it to use the bathroom one or more people would come up and ask if anyone was playing the machine. They wouldn't ask about the other empty machines, just the one with money in it. One time a woman quickly sat down and tried to put her money over top of my friends money in the machine. I kind of yelled at her that someone was coming right back and that there are many other open machines. This machine was between two of us so I am nearly certain she knew full well there was money in the machine.
Don't let your guard down folks, many vultures to be found in casinos! And they may look like a retired Sunday school teacher as well as a thug.....

Wow...very big-brother save on the part of CET. Very interesting story. Thanks!
Picking up a phone at one casino and traveling to another negates their laughable "we were going to turn it in" excuse... Bally's and Caesar's might be connected but you don't just randomly wander from one to the other.
Any other action, 100% of the time, is an attempt at theft. HAMMER THEM!

On the attempted theft of credits in machine, would a players card left in the slot help slow the vultures down? They at least would need to pull it if they wanted to deny someone else's claim, IDK. I detest being ripped off.
Went back a few minutes later and a older man was playing the machine with several hundred dollars in it.
He denied seeing my money on the machine. Called a slot attendant who called a supervisor.
There was a console along the wall they opened up that had a computer in it.
They were able to back track each and every hand in video poker. It even showed what cards I kept amount of bet and balance in the machine. It showed that this guy had put a voucher in over my money.
Keep in mind these were the older upright type machines that probably are close to 2 decades old.
If he had sat down and started playing my money it would be theft I suppose. If he had cashed out my money and left it definitely would be considered theft. But by putting his money in and staying, he can make a case that he didn't see the credits on the machine. The supervisor told him he owed me the money.
Another time it was my phone nearly getting stolen. It was winter time and I was sitting in a restaurant at the counter playing with my smartphone/internet appliance. I put the phone on the counter, stood up turned around to put my coat on. As I turned back to pick up my phone a 60ish woman was right next to me with her hand directly over my phone. when I say directly I mean her hand was just frozen inches above my phone nearly covering it.
I just stared at her. We locked eyes for maybe 5 seconds or so and she walked away.
Probably, she saw me playing on the phone and just stood behind me. I first saw her when she had her hand over my phone.
You just can't let your guard down in A.C. not for a minute.

30+ yrs ago I worked in a grocery store that was in a very nice part of town while attending school
You got to know who the floor walkers were over time and it was amazing how many well to do folks were in there stealing stuff
Once its was a college professor stealing bottles of shampoo ( in his 50s)
And the time the fella that owned a tire store/ repair shop that would come in pick up a cooked chicken around isle 3 and eat most of it by the last isle leaving the bones and package stuffed behind some items on the shelf.
Never paying for it with the rest of his purchases( guy was in his 60s and lived 7 houses down from me)
But the one I remember best was the husband and wife that came in late on Saturday night all the time to shop. They would have been in their late 50s early 60s. Come in after 9 pm and store closed at 10pm. Him in his business suit her in her Sunday best. Would always have a pretty full cart on the way to the register .....but the one night I noticed one of the floor walkers standing around as they were making their purchases and knew they must have pocketed something. Good time to go outside and bring in some buggies ( watch the event transpire) sure enough as they walked out the door they were stopped and asked if they forgot to pay for anything.... the shock on their faces was amazing.... no they said.... so they asked the lady to open her purse and remove the roasts she had dropped inside it and turned to him and asked for all the steaks he had hidden inside his suit coat..... suddenly they were dropping names...the main one being one of the owners who was also big time lawyer in the city, saying he was one of their close friends and they wanted to call him about this... sorry about your luck folks once they hire us to catch shoplifters they have no say in who we charge once we catch them shoplifting....... poor husband and wife didnt know what to do when they were told they were under arrest...... its not too often a family doctor and his wife a registered nurse get nailed for shoplifting on a Saturday night. How was he was going to explain his suit with extra pockets installed on the inside for them steaks he liked so much to the judge
Caesars Windsor security/ Surveillance are very very good at finding people who do stuff inside the casino....my mom dropped a hundred dollar TITO ticket on the floor once and once the slot person called them in with the ticket information they had the lady who picked it up and cashed it with 30 minutes....mom got all her money repaid within the month.... it was mostly in small change so they figure the lady panhandled downtown to get it for her.She was told she would be barred for life if the money wasn't repaid within the 30 days and the only time she could return in those 30 days was to return the money
Guy I know worked in a large chain supermarket in the city.
A customer told him an elderly gentlemen was injured. The customer led him to the man who was in line waiting to check out. Sure enough he was bleeding from his head. He asked the man if he was ok. To which he replied yes. My friend figured the poor man was just perhaps a little confused so he turned a shopping cart on its side and had the gentleman sit down while another employee fetched the first aid kit from the back room.
They lifted his hat of expecting to find a wound but instead found a small pot roast leaking its juice down the side of his head!
Sometimes things aren't what they appear....
On the casino floor, there was a time when there was money left in the ATM which I grabbed. Probably I could have walked out with it (if was about $600 I guess, never counted it) but I am guessing that had the money been reporting missing there would have been a rewind and I would have been stopped the next time I came into the casino. I took it straight to security and I have no idea what happened to it.
Put my phone on a wall charger close to the Main Bar at Trump Taj, have done this hundreds of times before without incident.
I don't stray more than 100 ft from it, usually to have a smoke or order a drink from the waitress. I plugged the phone in and walked towards the waitress, ordered my drink and came back to find the over 50 year old, heavy-set culprit walking away hastily. I easily got ahead of him, asking for my phone and charger back.
He says "What phone?" I say "The one attached to the charger you just took from the wall!" He starts denying having the phone and first gives me the charger, knowing he was caught red handed. But still proclaims he doesn't have my phone.
He starts walking towards the exit and I then threaten to get security and call the cops, to which he finally relents and gives back my phone. Could not believe the nerve of this guy, to try a snatch n grab and then deny guilt after being caught.
The one good thing was, I got back in time to get my drink, which was able to cool me down after the heated exchange!
Why are some people obsessed with facial recognition? facial recognition isn't a myth, but if the use of it in casinos was any more rare we could call it one.Quote: jjjooogggI am curious if facial recognition helped catch the OP's story?
Quote: dave12038457What I found amazing was how fast they could track the pair to another casino.
This whole video is fascinating, but the relevant part about tracking people through a casino and finding them at another property starts at 25:50

So if you have to leave a machine with
money in it, cash out and put a dollar
back in. Kind of a 'duh' situation. That
way if Thug Grandma comes along,
who cares.
