I am putting together a small mid winter guys trip to AC on Thursday of Presidents week. I suggested to the group that we stay at Borgata. One guy, I will call him Steve, because that is his name, booked a room last night for $109. ( he is not a Borgata player) Today another friend,John, ( his name also ) suggests we all stay at Harrahs as rooms were only $48 and most get a comp there. That was fine with me because I am comped at most AC casinos.
So Steve calls Harrahs and gets a comp. he then calls Borgata and he is told that the policy is no refunds. He texts me and I say no way is that true call back.
He calls back and they tell him " as a one time courtesy" they will let him switch the day to a day before April but there is no refund. He says ok, even though he will probably not use the room. He is told to call back by the end of the day with his new date.
I tell him that he should not accept this. He is a knowledgable guy in many areas so he should be able to convince them to provide a refund. So he reviews the policy and finds sometype type of loophole and they agreed to cancel the room.

Alls well that ends well..... And.... Believe me the $109 was not the issue, he will spend many times that during the trip, it was the principal. About 12 hours after booking a room a month away they would not cancel it??? The is bad business.

I have NEVER heard of this before.

Wow.

Even airlines let you cancel within 24 hours of booking...

This is normal for many special rates at hotels. Steve booked an internet deal that states at the very beginning "*Internet Special - this room rate is non-refundable" Steve was in the wrong for not reading the BOLD PRINT.

Was the credit card charged yet? Usually it's not until you actually check in.

Cancel the credit card if it's not.

Is this Borgata's standard reservation policy or just for the special when you signed up?

I know you can cancel comped rooms so I'm assuming this is limited to the "special" rate. Buyer beware, always!
I give this post an hour. Tee Hee!

The Borg usually charges the first night at the time you make the reservation, at least that's been my experience for years.
If government is the answer, it must have been a very stupid question.

Most casinos will charge that first night to your card. But it's refunded if you cancel.
