Been that way for years. One women's empowerment channel on YouTube started off with an escort who chatted with her johns more than a real escort would chat with a hundred of her johns, yet these story lines make fortune.

He made all cultures accessible and displayed our commonality in our daily need for food, family, and relevance.
An awful loss of creativity and perspective. I will miss him. RIP has seldom seemed so appropriate.

because of the Equifax thing many recommend freezing your credit
it seems pretty easy to do
but then, I think, if you need more credit you will have to unfreeze it
this USA today article tells you exactly how to do it
you have to freeze it at the 3 major credit reporting places - Equifax, Transunion and Experian
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2019/07/22/how-to-freeze-your-credit/1793244001/
you can also monitor your own credit at creditkarma.com - you can check it once a week for anything suspicious - it's totally free - that's what I did
kind of funny, I just went on it - they're recommending a Capital One credit card - it's an ad - that's how they make money - I don't blame them for that - it's just coincidence

I'm pissed at the French authorities and their woefully inadequate autopsy.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/30/us/john-dillinger-exhumed-cemetery.html?action=click&module=Latest&pgtype=Homepage
In the case of D., it was supported by some dubious aspects of the autopsy, which got the eye color wrong and found that the dead person had a heart condition that D. did not show signs of in life IIRC, maybe some other stuff. And for some reason his family poured concrete to seal up the grave as best they could.
As for the autopsy, I've noticed they are often botched in some manor, plus odd things can sometimes be explained. The eye color thing, for example, can be explained away as a cloudy condition that occurs after death. Of course, that suggests the person doing it didn't know better than to try to ascertain eye color, if this is true.
Oddly, it's been know for centuries autopsies and identification after death need to be done right and without controversy, at least ever since life insurance has been sold.
Quote: AyecarumbaThe news reports said the breach was from "applications". That is an astonishing number if accurate.
When I lived in Lauderdale, credit card companies would give out t-shirts in return for filling out applications. They'd set up booths by the beach and in front of places like Penrods in the early afternoon with boxes of shirts and run out by happy hour.
The last Yankee home playoff game I attended, one company was offering an exclusive Yankee Playoff Card. Sheeple were lined up to get one.

Examples:
You had a straight, the machine said 4 of a kind and paid 20.
You had nothing, the machine said full house and paid 15 coins.
You had three of a kind, the machine said four deuces and paid 1000 coins.
Etc.
I tested the game chip and it came back correct and approved.
When I showed IGT, they said they had never seen it and I should clear RAM and reboot.
That is the strangest thing I have ever seen on a slot machine. I had the machine removed from the floor.

from the article:
“The public response to the settlement has been overwhelming,” wrote Robert Schoshinski, assistant director of the F.T.C.’s division of privacy and identity protection, referring to an agreement reached with Equifax last week.
As a result, “each person who takes the money option will wind up only getting a small amount of money,” he added. “Nowhere near the $125 they could have gotten if there hadn’t been such an enormous number of claims filed.”

I meant this response to have everyone rolling in the aisles but humor aside there were actually two tests of that chip. One took place when the machine was observed to be going haywire and one when the chip was removed and soon declared correct and approved.Quote: FleaStiffPerhaps in test mode you get different Diesel fume emission values than in play mode.
In the Volkswagon scandal, the chip knew when it was a test and perhaps the same error is present in the gaming chip. in these days of air-gapped computers that are not air-gapped at all, someone may have made some discoveries. Casinos are often awash in infra-red and ultra-violet light but chip shielding may be inadequate.

On the East Coast, stolen cars generally fit into one of two categories. Either they are in huge demand overseas and disappear forever, or they are inside jobs by dissatisfied owners, owners with money problems or are going through a divorce. Report a luxury car stolen in Nassau County and expect to be asked about your financials and relationships.
Today's security systems and GPS have largely eliminated the joy ride aspect of car thievery.

yeah, but if it was a thief - and the keys weren't locked inside - how easily could he get the car started?
can they still do the ignition wire thing? - I dunno - also, could a thief easily locate and disable a GPS if the car had one
I would guess the really smart ones can do this pretty easily
