Drive? you pay a fortune to park and walk.Quote: GWAENever been to Seattle. Is it worth a drive to Vancouver?
Leave your car at the ferry dock in Washington then go to BC.
flying to the Seattle area seems to be expensive.Quote: GWAEI am flying out to Seattle for a sales call. Been looking at flights and it is around 400 round trip. This morning I did a thing through Google fights and there is a round trip for 196. If I go to United and do the same exact flights it is 419. Has anyone run into that before? Is this normal, should I always be going through google?
Quote: AxelWolfflying to the Seattle area seems to be expensive.
we have only 1 direct flight to Seattle and it is through Alaska airlines. Current price is $596 round trip. My $196 round trip ticket is on United with a layover in Chicago for 2 hours. All other flights were north of $400. I am thinking that I should book a first class ticket on the way home for $505 1 one. If I land this deal I think I deserve it.
My wife and I lived in an Atlanta suburb from February 1978 until January 2008 -- a month shy of 30 years. If you live in Atlanta, it is very difficult to justify flying any airline but Delta on a regular basis, so that's where my airline loyalty and frequent-flyer membership was anchored. I even got tied in with the Delta AMEX card as my primary credit card.Quote: GWAEwe have only 1 direct flight to Seattle and it is through Alaska airlines.
In 2008, we moved to the Charlotte area. The only place I can fly direct from Charlotte on a Delta flight is to a Delta hub. Almost anywhere I want to go, the routing is CLT to Delta hub to destination airport. It is really annoying to have every trip be multi-leg in both directions. I have been sorely tempted to switch to another airline (one that uses CLT as a hub), but the long-term SkyMiles and AMEX links seem to have been effective marketing techniques for roping me in. Guess maybe it's a good thing that I don't need to fly for business these days, what with being unemployed (retired) for more than 15 years.

How much do you fly? Cant be a whole lot if not flying for business. Yea, if flying DL, just about everything goes thru ATL. How much are you really giving up switching airlines. In your situation, I would consider Southwest. Its not a hub airline, its a point to point airline. Its a very well run airline and has a lot of customer loyalty including seniors.
Quote: Rigondeaux"What is racism" is kind of a pointless convo. It's not exactly a scientific term. But we have a lot of messed up discourse because it simultaneously refers to 1)Hideous behavior. 2) Sort of bad/ignorant behavior that is an example of normal human imperfection. 3) Rational behavior.
One thing I figured out a long time ago though, is that a lot of times people can see faults in other groups much more clearly than their own. Whatever groups those might be. That really confuses things because when they criticize others, much of what they're saying might be true, and then reflexively people will argue that it is NOT true. However, this isn't actually the error the person has made. Their error is not seeing that their own group is equally flawed.
Moreover, focusing on the flaws of others is one of the foundational errors in any type of moral thinking. Everyone from Jesus to Confucious makes a big point of saying, how about you work on yourself instead of pointing the finger all the time Mr. Perfect?
There is a weird inversion of all this in some cases. People we might call SJWs who endlessly find fault with any group they belong to, while other groups can do no wrong.
I think stereotyping is making generalized statements about a race. Racism is when you refuse to accept someone as an individual. Example, teacher gives a student a lower grade based on race, not performance. its probably not the actual definition of sterotyping and racism.
If one lives in a community where their race is less than 1% of the population, it can seem like everyone is else is racist, can also isolate with lack of quality friends.
Quote: GWAENever been to Seattle. Is it worth a drive to Vancouver?
I lived in Seattle for 9 years - Vancouver is nice, but it depends on what you're looking for. Honestly, the most "touristy" thing I ever did in Vancouver was park the car along a big retail strip and walk around with an ex girlfriend. She was a shopper, so that was fun.
It's not a short drive though. 2.5-3 hours depending on exact starting point and destination, and traffic (definitely avoid rush hour or you will hate yourself).
Vancouver *island* (which annoyingly does not contain the city of Vancouver) is a whole different thing. The main city there (Victoria) is very picturesque and lots of stuff to do. You can take a ferry there from Seattle (I think?) or from Anacortes a bit north of Seattle. I haven't been since I was a kid though.
So basically I'm not helping you much, other than to suggest you need to target your activities a bit more to determine if it's worth a drive.
Oh, Vancouver does have casinos. But there are tons of tribal casinos on the route up there too. The casinos across the border aren't anything to write home about compared to the tribal ones in WA state. The one time I visited one, the BJ games were 100% CSMs. Since I was looking for a countable game, that pissed me off. I played some craps though.

I would probably choose American in Charlotte. That is a hub of theirs and I believe they have a rewards program with AMEX too.
Yes, that is the candidate I have considered. I just don't do enough flying anymore to bother making the change. My wife and I have made several car trips so far this year, including an eight-day, 2,500-mile jaunt Sunday-Sunday this past week (visiting 12 states and one Canadian province). In contrast, we have only made one trip this entire year (WoV Spring Fling) that involved plane flights. The usual plan is that we will drive from NC to any place east of the Mississippi River but fly to more distant areas and rent a vehicle there. This most recent car trip was an exception in that we hit three states west of that river (AR, MO, & IA). Some pre-trip discussions were covered in the Casino Chip of the Day thread a while back, and I need to make some post-trip comments there soon, too.Quote: DRichI would probably choose American in Charlotte. Used to be able to drink a polar bear under the table. I'm like a former NFL player who can now barely walk.
Enjoy it while you can, kids.

Do restaurants in Cuba actually have food to sell? Yachties entering Cuba used to have to display sufficient ration because food stores often had no merchandize to sel.
I'm told the best Cuban food is in Brooklyn.

Off topic. Perhaps you should start a thread with that title?
Having never have eaten Cuban food in Brooklyn, I would agree with this statement. Actually, you can find really good Cuban food all over south Florida, including Ybor City/Tampa area. Heck, there are even a couple of decent Cuban places here in Jacksonville.Quote: PokerGrinderIm assuming that the Cuban food in Miami is worlds better than Brooklyn.
PG, you'll have to let us know if the food is better in Cuba or Miami!

I've been there several times
more than 50,000 soldiers died there in 3 days of fighting
walking around that battlefield I feel something - every time - maybe restless uneasy souls
I'm not a believer in the supernatural - but I cannot deny what I felt
maybe my imagination triggered the feeling - and there is really nothing there - that is very possible - who knows?

I almost never read them. What irritated me was there could be a thread talking about boxers vs briefs and it would turn into a debate about Trump. And this lead to a lot of personal acrimony between posters that spilled everywhere.
It seems to me like there is more discussion of other topics now.

It's one of those things that get debated but no way to prove otherwise. I dont believe in super natural but I had 2 things happen that make me wonder. once I was sitting in the living room and I heard my hanging pots and pans banging violently against each other. I guess I could have imagined it but it freaked me out enough that I left my house and sat in the yard for a few hours until then girlfriend came home.
I was at the hospital when my grandma died. I was sitting in the waiting room and something weird made me start going to the room. Half way there I saw people crying in the hallway and knew what happened.
I still tell myself that it is bullcrap but so many people have stories like that so I really have no idea.
Or in your case, what color panties you should wear on Monday.🤣🤣Quote: RigondeauxWhat irritated me was there could be a thread talking about boxers vs briefs and it would turn into a debate about Trump.
