Quote: lilredroosterthese are the 20 most stolen cars from 2016
Have to throw the flag on this one.
There's maybe 30k Hellcats TOTAL as of right now. Can pretty much halve it for 2016. And it's "the most stolen "?
There's a million Civics and probably a billion Camrys. Every Taco/ Hilux that's ever been made is still running. Ah, but it's the Infinity that's being taken?
Maybe I should've read the article. But the title is false. Ain't no way

I made a mistake in my OP - it's not 2016 - it's the model year 2016-2018
don't know if that makes a difference in your assessment
I think what motivates the thieves is if they think they can get much better money for the car - not how easy it is to find & steal
I’m surprised there isn’t apps that can tell you the exact coordinates your car is at all the time. Even if it’s moving.

That is built-in now. Well, at least my car came with ON-Star, crash notification. You crash, it sends out a signal that you did and where you are.

I remember Wiz pitched a fit aboot this exact thing years ago. Something aboot either a poor application of statistics or misleading wording. I think specifically it was a stat that showed "cars that, by percentage of stolen v produced, were stolen most often" and was used as "these are the most stolen cars".
Hellcats come aboot 9,000 per year. There's 15k Camrys stolen every year. Divvy that up among model years and that's (very roughly) near aboot a thousand each per model years.
And Hellcat loses more? More than 1 stolen for every 9 produced?
Just seems off.

I read it as the car most likely to be stolen. If you own a Hellcat, and your wife owns a Camry, your car is more likely to be stolen. It doesn't mean more Hellcats are stolen than Camrys, it means Hellcats are more likely to be stolen than a Camry owner.
Let's say 900 are stolen. That puts the chance of your car being stolen at ten percent. 15,000 Camry stolen out of a half million sold means the chances your car are stolen are much lower.
Send one of the to a chop shop and it's dismantled in a few hours and the parts go onto many different vehicles.
You waylay a Hemi, not much you can do with it besides shred tires.
Quote: petroglyphA couple decades or so ago I read, it may have been a chevy Caprice, or maybe some Toyota model ? But the reason given was the most parts on the vehicle were the most interchangeable with other makes and models.

Got a link for that. I have a 2016 in the garage that I'm willing to sell with only 10k miles. I could probably even pay for shipping.
they said the most popular car in Egypt at that time was the Chevrolet Caprice
why? because it had really good air conditioning
Quote: TigerWuUnfortunately it sounds like the grandfather is completely at fault here.
Every time I go to Europe I'm just amazed at all the things I see that would be some kind of severe safety violation or a guaranteed lawsuit here in the States, but over there no one cares, or they're like, "Hey, if you fall off this 13th century staircase, that's on you. Just don't be an idiot and you'll probably be fine." Still saw some pretty dangerous stuff, though, even if you WEREN'T acting like an idiot.
In Bern Switzerland, There is an outdoor bear cage in the middle of the street. The cage is a deep pit with waist high brick wall. I can see people in the states suing if a kid fell in. I guess the Swiss don't see a problem.

Quote: jjjooogggI haven't played blackjack in almost a year. I've been doing HVAC work almost everyday. Saved about 300k this year. I could see myself doing this forever. some of my skills has surpassed decade experienced techs. I find that they are not as skilled at brazing, finding leaks, underlying problems, and wiring and drainage mistakes.
I'm sure they can find them in their own homes. I had a friend who worked as an oil burner technician. He claimed they were instructed to do just enough to keep something going, but not to do anything about potential problems.
Quote: billryanI'm sure they can find them in their own homes. I had a friend who worked as an oil burner technician. He claimed they were instructed to do just enough to keep something going, but not to do anything about potential problems.
I am sure that that is true some of the time. But: A semi friend tech with 12 years brazed a 7/8" vertical pipe with a leak. I found the oil spot inside the insulation. tech sprayed water on door safety switch and mistakenly diagnosed bad control board. I put old one back and cleaned contacts. said leak was on evap, found leak on suction line during compressor install. leak is also sometimes on lose shraeder core, not evap. plumber installed p trap at angle to defeat p trap's purpose. So air suction on drain line diverted water to air filter onto floor. Found safety switches in parrallel not series. No logical reason for that. Old tech looked at icemaker. I found the water distribution tube not installed right after years of warranty work.
Some of the money we saved was by minimizing cost of vandals. After certification, I noticed HVAC/electrician vandals. Our past tech was upset bc we stopped using him for outrageous labor costs. He'd charge like 900 for labor to install a waranty fan motor. Came to a location found breaker tripped. Turned on with cooling and defrost not working, smell buring wires. 2 techs said wires are vandalized and can't figure out how to rewire. Third tech took 6 hours. I had to do more rewiring myself. This happened about 15 times before I got certified. When techs couldn't figure the rewiring, they'd say that our 1 year old compressor went bad and we'd replace the whole skid. Had to put a lock on the control panel. I came to find linsets vandalized. Someone disconnected a 120 leg and proped to electrify Condenser housing. I was working on the discharge line and heard a pop. I found a 120 leg wire disconnected from a screw down terminal. I found freezer unit vacuumed of all 404a at -29 in Hg. As a certified tech, I can buy freon cheap. Other Techs vandlize units a few times a year while repairing. I found all the freezer thermostats set to 0 celcius or 32 farenheit. and the frig set to 42 f. I had to bring it down to 15 f and 35 f. That is not a mistake.
I told my friend that units don't seem to be installed the way that they would their own. Example, missing secondary drain pan. service caps left lose. no drain pipe on secondary pan.
My friend was an AC tech during college. He is 50 know and said that he went thru depression when he lost his IBM job. and decided to start his own IT business. He and others have complained that AC tech is a dirty job. We rarely handle fiberglass. I gladly work outside near condensers over restaurant work. I think that he likes to feel important, so he'd rather make less doing IT.
Shouldn't she be called Butterflya
I'm a retired power lineman. There were some lean times in the 70's, and I almost starved 3 times in the eighty's . I never dreamed there could be the demand there is now.Quote: jjjooogggThere is a great shortage of AC Techs and plumbers. Our plumbing teacher called this the perfect storm and we are the "first responders." Because the iron pipes are expiring. These are good jobs. A school owner said that there is not a shortage of jobs. Yet, there is a shortage of techs. Two AC compaines have zero techs. Another lost 1/2.

Employers have tried pretenders from other country's, [ Jamaica, Haiti, etc. ] that claimed they were qualified, but when given the keys to the grid, don't know where to stick them. It's not something you can fake for long. I'm sure there will be more outages and electrocutions. And they are turning these people loose into a system that deferred maintenance for 50 years. The country abandoned, and then lost, 2-3 generations of skilled trades. Disaster cometh.
Now apparently congress is catching on, https://www.nextgov.com/cybersecurity/2018/12/plan-dumb-down-power-grid-name-cybersecurity-passes-senate/153719/.
The plan is to harden the grid by returning it to analog. But that will require many more linemen, that there has been a dearth of for more than 30 years. I would think demand will be frantic for 25 years at least? The linehands we have now are burning out .

About eight to ten years ago, I spent about eight hours with a Major in the Pakistani Army. Fascinating story- Pakistan paid for his schooling and allowed him to immigrant but he owes them six weeks of reserve duty each summer. He was about 15 years into a 25 year obligation. We ended up talking about our love of the same types of movie- the swashbuckling Bengal Lancer types.
From that we talked history and he started telling me all about Kashmir. He was quite passionate about it. A few days later I mentioned it to an Indian neighbor and was told it was all lies and had to listen to an entirely different version of the conflict.
They use a similar roadside sobriety test like the alcohol test of walking straight lines and so forth to identify drivers to test.
Probably neither was truthful.Quote: billryanA few days later I mentioned it to an Indian neighbor and was told it was all lies and had to listen to an entirely different version of the conflict.
Kid does not take his hat off during the anthem
An adult stranger picks him up and smashes him to the ground head 1st
He said (the boy) was disrespecting the national anthem so he had every right to do that

If the hat was the issue, why didn't he just flip it off the kids head?
Why do people take off their hat for the anthem. Orthodox Jews don't and I'm fine by that
A woman may leave her hat on during the playing of The National Anthem

Also, cancer patients are exempt from the no-cap rule, so before attacking a boy for not removing his hat, one should be 100% sure the kid is not on chemotherapy.

I proudly wear my Grateful Dead hat everywhere, even during a great anthem such as Terrapin Station or any anthem
I could care less if a stranger such as Emily Post objects. Who is this chick?

I don't understand it either. I don't wear hats but if I did I would not take it off. During the Anthem I will stand and be quiet and respect those around me but you will never see me put my hand on my chest, sing, or otherwise conform to nationalistic rituals. I view it the same as religion. If I am at someones house and they say a prayer before eating, I will stand there quietly without expressing what a foolish custom that I believe it is.
Perhaps as some can cover your face, people took them off to show their face and appear friendly.
I've undergone both chemo and radiation treatments, and I was told to never be in the sun. I thought that was because of the radiation?Quote: ChesterDogEmily Post recommends that women remove their baseball caps, but not their fashion hats, during the national anthem.

It does seem like some kind of sentence, to not expose my skin to the sun, living in Arizona. We have sun over 330 days per year, and I can't fathom how only taking my sun hat off for that short of time would be harmful to my health, but I do play along and wear a large brim hat everywhere outdoors, even for short durations?
good luck with that

Why such a variation in the routine? If you think someone is following them and acting when they are different, it seems like there is an obvious solution. One can make your settings universal or switch companies.

Have you ruled out that someone that works for you knows the surveillance system and is doing the stealing? Seems like the obvious answer to me when you consider motive and opportunity.Quote: jjjooogggOpen bed trailer stolen. We have surveillance. Left town last nite to pick up delivery truck. The INS will move on, the workers will be replaced by others and the sheeple will cheer.
They don't want that. They want a large workforce with no rights. They want to reward their friends for breaking the law. And to dupe average people into blaming the immigrants for acting exactly as planned.
Divide and conquer. Works like a charm.
