There are n people, numbered 1 to n, standing in a circle and in number order. Starting with person 1, he skips over the first living person (person number 2) on his left and then kills the next person. The person to the left of the recently killed does the same. This continues going around the circle until there is one person left.

The question is for n people, who will be the last person standing as a function of n?

As an example, considers today's date. If there were 11262024 people, who would the last one standing?

Please don't just throw out a link. The pursuit of the answer is the goal, not the answer itself.

Hopefully nobody presses charges against me on that one as a political statement.
