The Hand of Faith is a 27kg gold nugget that was found in Central Victoria, Australia in 1980 and sold to Steve Wynn, who travelled to Australia to collect it. It stood at the entrance of the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas for many years but has since been removed. It was and still is the largest gold nugget found with a hand held metal detector in the world.

Does anyone know what happened to it and/or its the current whereabouts?

The GN operates more than one hotel/casino (it's actually owned by Landry's, a resteraunt holding company). It bounces around from one casino to their next. The displays usually have a fake one in their display when the real one is in another casino.

...And, what better place to admire it than the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Biloxi?

Interesting somebody brings this up. I wandered into the AAA Coin & Jewelry store on Monday and they had what looked like the Hand of Faith on the shelf. I asked the owner about it and he said that Steve Wynn had several replicas made for hist best high rollers, when he ran the Golden Nugget and one ended up in his store. It does look exactly like the one in the Golden Nugget now. I didn't bother to ask about a price, but might have in my more financially endowed days.

I don't know anything about where the real one is, but this does somewhat confirm the theory of their being replicas floating around.

Huh?

None of my business but I just assumed that when you sold this site for a couple million dollars that it became your financial high point?

Why don't we take this to PM, if you really care.

Does this mean you’re going to be on “Pawn Stars”? I didn’t think Rick was involved in day to day counter work at the store anymore.

If copies have been made then that explains why I had been receiving conflicting stories about where it is. By all accounts it appears the genuine one is in Biloxi, MS, at least for now.

That's not the store on Pawn Stars. It's a little store off of Fremont Street, next to the beef jerky store. Quirky little place. The owner is a nice guy.

Yes, but just dont claim you have a winning system or the members will crucify you.
I got a plan, we take all your picks we reverse them like one of those twilight zone episodes where everything is the opposite. You say "black" we go white.

Ooops! (Although it would be cool to see you on the show as a "buddy who knows about these things" to look at some license plates). The Beef Jerky Store is awesome. There's so much stuff in there.

Thanks, but you don't need to. The info is posted on their website. It says the real one is in Biloxi.

Lots of folks enjoy the trip reports, so please still do a write up. Including photos is a plus!
