I'm pretty much in the opposite camp - I retire in about six months, assuming they don't come up with a flimsy excuse to keep me from leaving my job, and Vegas is on my list of places to move to, as I am not sure if I will be able to afford to stay where I am (San Francisco bay area) on my pension; in fact, one of the things I plan on doing on my Vegas trip in about six weeks is to scope out potential areas. (For those of you who are familiar with the area, what's Centennial Hills like?)
But if you are moving away from Vegas, where are you headed?

I moved from Vegas to Florida after 30 years in Vegas. Centennial Hills is Northwest Las Vegas as you head out to Lee Canyon. It tends to be an affordable area but you are a fair distance from downtown Vegas. I lived in what is called Green Valley which was one of the first master planned areas. A great area that is now very mature but still close to everything.

To me that's like moving from the crotch to the armpit and calling it an improvement. I would not live in either one of those places if it was free. Every time I visit either one I constantly say to myself, and people live here on purpose. They actually move here on purpose. I never get it. Right now where I live it's absolutely glorious outside, 72° and no humidity. Sunny and green and glorious. Yeah we have winter but the sun goes down at 5:00 p.m. So who cares. I lived in California for 7 years and felt just as restricted in the winter as I did in Michigan.

The only reason I want to live down South is temperature. If it gets below 40 degrees I am miserable.

I agree
Freezing weather sucks
By the way we made it up to 113 today
I went for a short scooter ride
Real short
The breeze feels like a hot air fryer. The air blowing on my body actually feels like I'm being air fried alive
Just so oppressive
Just a few steps and you feel like you are dying
July 4 – 112
July 5 – 112
July 6 – 115
July 7 – 117
July 8 – 118 (possible record-setting day)
July 9 – 117
July 10 – 116
No relief at night. Take tonight. An hour after the sun goes down, 105 temp. Sheesh
Summers are just flat out miserable in Vegas. Doesn''t matter if you have a pool, either. You'd be sitting in a bathtub of warm water, breathing in hot air in a parching breeze. Yes, evaporation theoretically cools you, but not when the air temp is 100.
I have a buddy that lives in Henderson, near Sunset Station Casino. I helped him move in there. Let me tell you--it's very important that you check out the local casinos before you settle for a place. Green Valley Ranch Station was supposedly newer and 'richer', but was so laden with smokers that it was intolerable. The locals in GVR were about 15 years older than my buddy, and thus had a lot more folks who were smokers. So, even though the casinos were only a few miles apart, the experience from each were greatly different.

I have no doubt there are hotter places in Vegas
There are places where the heat and sun are able to concentrate in a small area. Just got to find the right spot to fry an egg. Can't be done anywhere but there are spots that will fry one outside
The record is simply the temp reading in a consistent spot to get an overall picture

I think the water is hotter then 115. It's coming in through a hose sitting on hot black pavement.
Shows have cost me from about 150 to 300
Usually in the 200 range

6 more to go
They are taking a 2 week break
Next show starts Aug 1

Wow, that's surprising. Do you know where your water comes from? I believe most potable water in FL comes from groundwater. Where I grew up in south FL (east coast), we had a shallow well, but our "cold" water never got to those temps. In fact, water from the well was usually noticeably colder than the air temps in summer.Quote: DRichWhere I live in Florida I would guess the cold water tap is over 100 degrees in the summer. We are on city water but the reason it is so warm is just sitting in the pipes during the hottest part of the day. If I let the water run for 10 minutes or so the temperature drops to warm.

Delightfully pleasant here in the middle of Wisconsin, right around 70°F with mild humidity.
I only complain about the mosquitoes when they're on the wrong side of the door and they think it's my turn to feed them.

I really don't know why you can't buy a mosquito tracking laser beam device to shoot them out of air yet.

It's very strange it is July 20th and I have not been bitten by one mosquito yet this year. Haven't seen any and I live in the country surrounded by water. Maybe I'm not outside at the right time.

He said he sets his clocks ahead didn't he? So when he goes out at dusk the mosquitos don't come out until an hour later.

It could very well be.
I freely admit I'm not dialed in on the nuances of EvenBob Delight Time.

The Heat Dome just broke here in Eastern MA. It was consistently high 80s and low 90s for almost 2 weeks, and we were miserable. I still don't know how and why people would live in parts of the country where it reaches triple digits and near triple digits for months on end.

I agree
It might as well be a monsoon outside.
Just don't want to be outside.
Can't wait to leave the desert once Dead and Co residency over.
On the flip side. This residency may be a yearly summer event at the Sphere. Looks like I may be back next summer lol

We seem to be made to suffer. It's our lot in life.
Fortunately, I think I caught the end of it, the rains were just starting and things were cooling off.

You learn to adjust. These days, I'm riding by 6 a.m. and finished swimming by 8:30 a.m. I can drive to the mountains in forty minutes and it is a good twenty degrees cooler. Last week, we had a cool wave where it got under 95 for several days. The best thing is you never have to shovel heat.

I agree, you just learn to do outdoor activities in the morning before it gets too hot. I was rarely outside between 11am and 10pm. Just stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning.
