Anyone have experience with this process for arrival and departure?
I do not have any experience, but I commonly see a bunch of drivers waiting at the bottom of the escalators when my flight arrives in Las Vegas carrying a sign with names on them. I had assumed that these were high roller services. If you're not sure (and I'm sure I just added nothing of help) just call them again and ask how it works. The info you get there will be a heckuvalot more accurate than what you'll get here.Quote: JeffRAnyone have experience with this process for arrival and departure?
The Hotel expects you to go to the BAGGAGE CLAIM area and take your luggage off the carousel.
I think you will find it is here that men in black Limousine Caps hold up signs with your surname inked in and often the casino's name at the bottom of the sign.
Be advised: I understand that you still tip the limo driver, particularly if he does any detours for you enroute to the casino.
FYI - I don't know which airline you are flying, but about a year ago, McCarren opened up a new terminal with a new baggage claim area, so make sure you follow the signs or else you will end up in one terminal and you baggage and driver will be in the other.
The cool part of this is that I get to surprise my parents (who will occupy the other br). They think I just booked 2 standard rooms. I get to surprise them at check in when they ask: "So how close are our rooms" and I'll get to reply with a smile, "Oh they're close..."
Quote: JeffRThis is all great info. I will spot him a $20.. it's not a big deal and I don't need any detours enroute. I'll be flying Southwest so the new baggage area won't come into play.

or they will be pissed that they have to share. ;-)
I had a service pick us up a few years ago and we had 2 people and a bunch of luggage. He helped carry it to the car and was very friendly. I tipped $20 and I felt cheap so I am glad that others have done the same.
Also keep another thing in mind. When we stayed in the honeymoon suite at the Mirage it is on their "special" floors. I noticed that we had more people attending to us than compared to a normal room. We ended up tipping a total of about $50 on the first day between the limo guy, the bell hop on the bottom floor, the bell hop that came to our room, and the "head" maid who checked on us shortly after checking in. We asked for a few things when she came to the room so I felt obligated to tip a little more. When we ordered room service for breakfast they came into the suite and put linens on the dining room table and set it up like a top tier restaurant and wanted to serve it to us as we sat. Again I felt obliged to give an extra tip.

Mind if we ask what the suite cost for your trip? Or if you are getting it comped?
Man, I am being nosy today.
I usually just give him $5. I never really thought I was being cheap... I never asked other what they tip before; I just came up with a number that seemed reasonable to me -- it's about double what I'd tip a cabbie (I usually tip a cab driver about $3 for that trip). I never ask the guy to make any other stops, and I never have any heavy bags or anything to load.
Quote: JeffRI figure if I haven't gotten the comp'd transportation I'd be paying close to 20 to get there anyways. I just consider this $20 for a really nice ride from the airport.
I've tipped $10 / person for the limo ride to/from the airport the couple of times we've got it. Once comp'd and once because he was headed there anyways and my friend just asked him. I'm pretty sure in the former situation he was also headed there and it just worked out when we spoke to the host. This was from southerhalf of the strip. And worth it to me for 'a really nice ride' to the airport'.
Quote: AxiomOfChoiceDo you all really tip a limo driver $20 to go from the airport to a strip hotel?

Yes,. Yes most people do. If you are getting a comp and then you are tipping a third of the cab fare. You really need to look at why you are in Vegas. Sorry but these people are working for tips and you just being cheap. And yes you are the guy they laugh about.... But hey spend that twenty you saved on a good meal or better yet, changing the odds in you favor.
Quote: BozSorry but I call bullshit here. If you are really getting the Penthouse at Bellagio you are willing to lose six figures plus in a weekend and would know what to do. You should be tipping 500 plus to the driver because you have already shown that level of wager and tokes and would not be asking here
Sorry didn't read you actually paid for that room. In that case, Billy Baldwin is smiling and there is no advise we can give you other than to enjoy yourself....

He never said it was comped. He is paying for it and getting a tier discount.
Also I don't think that he said that he is getting a penthouse -- just a 2BR suite. These are not that big of a deal (actually, $600 after tier discount seems like a lot, although maybe this is a bigger/nicer 2BR suite than the ones that I've seen, or maybe it's just a really expensive weekend)

Yes, exactly, I am tipping 1/3 of cab fare. That seems reasonable to me. The fact that it's comped it not relevant -- why does it matter to the driver if I pay for it or the casino pays for it? If I was paying for the limo ride I would tip the same amount.
If you get a $200 meal comped, do you tip $200 or do you tip the same as you would normally tip on a $200 meal? I tip the same as I'd normally tip on a $200 meal (about $40, assuming that the service was good). Again, it doesn't matter who is paying for the meal (me or the casino); I tip the same amount in either case.

It's the 2br penthouse suite. I didn't find anything else with 2BR besides a Villa (which isn't bookable by people like me!)

Oh, I see. Then yeah, the price seems reasonable. How big is it?

I dunno why people tip more when it's comped. I always tip as if I've paid for the meal. It was paid for in some way or another, why throw on extra money? Don't peg me as a cheap tipper, I usually give 20% at restaurants regardless. Also I usually put money in the tip jar if I use a comp at Starbucks or Subway, if the employee is efficient and fast.
I know the employees get madder if you don't tip more on a comped meal. I had full RFB at a casino and I was getting $105 bottles of wine, bill was $200 and I tipped $20. Usually, an employee would be happy with a $20 tip but this guy was pissed and let me know about it the next time I was in there.Quote: djatcI dunno why people tip more when it's comped. If a service employee EVER said anything to me about a tip I would make sure that employee was fired before I left.

Yup, me too.
