Okay, so room rates are now about thirty dollars less than 2007, but room rates now include a buffet coupon or two and perhaps fail to reflect a resort fee. So in effect room rates have indeed recovered to 2007 levels.

Clearly, the folks in Vegas are using a formula to bring in more patrons and hope they spend more... not working out so well. People have less money to spend.

There's emptiness behind their eyes
There's dust in all their hearts
They just want to steal us all and take us all apart

What would be interesting is to see occupancy rates compared to 2007. Since 2007, the Palazzo, Aria, Vdara, Cosmopolitan, Mandarin Oriental and Encore have all opened on the strip. My guess is the occupancy rate is markedly lower than it was in 2007 and thus the lower room rate per person.
