Michael,
I thouht you might be interested to know that effective July 1 2010 the design of the NWT polar bear licence plate is changing. It is still going to be a polar bear but a bit fatter and the fourth leg will be more pronounced.
just as a side note our damn Territorial government is charging us $25.00 if we DON'T want to change our old plates.

Global warming can't get here fast enough, there's still patches of snow on the ground and the lakes are still frozen.

Hey, nice to have a NWT resident at the forum! I did not know that about the plates. Now don't go throwing away your old one. I'm sure you know who would want it (hint hint).
On another topic, were you NWT folks get mad when Canada let Nunavut secede? What is the gambling scene like up there?

I am sure I probably have a spare NWT plate here if you would like one just let me know,
There is zero gambling up here, the nearest Casino would probably be Whitecourt Alberta which is about a 16 hour drive, whereas to fly from Yellowknife to Vegas is 4.5 hours total flying time.
The whole Nunavut thing has been a bit of a farce. I honestly don't think anybody here really noticed or cared, the Territory was just way too big and the difference between the cultures in the Western and Eastern arctic was about the same as France & India.
We were promised big savings in the cost of running the NWT but there are now 50% more government workers then there were 11 years ago when the Territory was twice as big. The flip side of that though is the world wide recession had almost zero impact up here because our economy is based so heavily on government.
