Which State Flag is not rectangular ?

Hint: Casino gambling was legalized there recently via a constitutional amendment, and is already legal in the states to the North, East, West, and Southeast.

Ohio.

Q: The Texas state flag has a white stripe above a red stripe. Why is the red stripe on the bottom?

CORRECT. I guess this question was a little too easy, but hopefully interesting to
a few folks. Maybe you can use it to quiz your kids, or to break up the drive on a
Vacation...

Which country flag is not rectangular? I know of one, but there may be others.

Also...tough one...what is the ratio of length to height of the US flag?

As always, no searching. If you must know now, go ahead and look it up, but don't ruin it for everybody else by posting the answer.

Flag ratio is 1.9:1

Not sure about the non-rectangular flag

Switzerland has a square flag (which is still a rectangle). One of the Far Eastern countries has a double-pennant shaped flag. It might even be one of the Pacific Island countries, but not sure which.

Yes, that is what I was thinking.

Being an ex-Navy Air Traffic Controller, I had a memo once about the sizes of the standard flags. I don't remember all of them, but a Post Flag was 19x10, a Garrison 38x20, and so on. Just dumb luck that you asked that question. I think I read once that the ratio is a federal law...or maybe I dreamed that....

Interesting. Which airport did you work out of?

I was seriously thinking about a career as a civilian air traffic controller at one point. I took the test in Ventura, and passed it. However, never got called in for an interview. Probably no veteran's preference points is the reason.

My first 3 years we spent on Coronado Island (NorthIsland NAS) at a tenant command known as FACSFAC (Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility). Our call sign was Beaver Control, that always amused me. We 'controlled' the SoCal operating area, a VFR playground for training pilots, and bombing San Clemente Island. I spent a year in Beeville, TX, and Chase Field. And 8 months on the USS Nimitz.

I was never eligible to be an FAA controller because of my BCD (Bad Conduct Discharge). I was pinched on the boat for loansharking and bookmaking. I argued that I was merely providing a service that the Navy didnt provide. Oh well, all my fault, although I always felt controlling was my calling.

Isn't the US flag a slightly different ratio to other flags (longer and thinner)?

I think so.

I think most are 3:2 while US is 1.9:1

I see that we are close to the same age. I wonder if that was around the time Clinton lifted the ban on former PATCO controllers who were fired by Reagan during the strike. Was real hard to get in the early '90s because of it.

I would have taken the test in 87 or 88. There were also some "extra credit" questions on the test you would need to have some aviation knowledge to get right, of which I had zero. The letter I got said that while I passed the test, my score was not competitive enough to get an interview.
