Their are two types of hosts. One is an in house one and the other is an independent rep.
In house hosts do you for the most part handle junkets.
Outside reps usually do.
Always stick with inside hosts, outside reps lose commission for anything they give you.

what is considered a junket? from what i understand its some kind of freebie such as a meal or travel costs or a couple of other things to get the person to patronize the casino and gamble?

edit
and is any kind of promotion that gets the customer to the casino considered a junket?

Junkets were big twenty years ago. Sometimes a casino ,or outside agency, would try and load a plane with gamblers and give them special incentives to entice them.
Its not a big thing in Vegas any more but depending on where you live, junkets to Laughlin are still pretty common. Harrahs and Riverside run them weekly.
The older I get, the better I recall things that never happened

You most likely won't need a host if you're a low roller.

Also, a lot of comp stuff is automated/online now in conjunction with player's cards, so you can still get comps and discounts without a host.

CET still offers what I consider to be junkets -- a package that includes airfare on a chartered flight, airport transfers and hotel rooms, possibly other perks. Depending on your level of play, they might offer a discount or comp it completely. If you go to their website and click on the "Airport Information" link, you can see upcoming junkets. You can do a document search using airport codes to see if any leave from your area.

There used to be a private company around here that offered junkets to Biloxi, but I don't think they are around any more.

As far as hosts go, even low rollers can benefit from talking to one at many places. If you stay for a weekend at a casino, even with moderate play, you can always go talk to a host before you check out and see if they can comp anything on your bill. YMMV, but the worst thing that can happen is they say 'no.' You can also ask them what level of play is needed to get stuff comped if you are curious.

For bigger players (which I am not, but others here who are could give you a better idea of what hosts can do) in addition to helping out with comps, hosts can help with things like securing/upgrading rooms, getting event tickets, club admission, entry to special tournaments, special meals, etc. (Or so I've heard! :) )

Oh, yeah, I just got an email from CET a couple weeks ago for a 3 or 4 night stay in Laughlin, with a chartered flight, transportation, and I think some free play, all for only $200. I thought that was an insanely good deal considering how infrequently I gamble and how little I wager, but who knows... maybe they're desperate for players. Also, the big catch was you had to go on this one exact date.

I got these offers to Laughlin all the time when I lived on the west coast, now I get them to AC. Usually it's either a total comp, or like a $99 or $199 "booking fee" per body. Never been in a position to accept them, sadly.

You also want to make sure it's not a straight up scam. Lots of scammers spoof names of Companies names in Emails and when you try to collect your deal CET has no idea what you are talking about. You then show them the Email and they point out to you that it says cet and not CET, and that this may have been from a Scammer and you see their point.

I thought that at first but then I went to the Total Rewards website to confirm it was legit.
