Instead of someone being suspended or nuked, possibly make being able to post random. So instead of being suspended for 3 days, let it be for the next 30 days, a 90% chance of being able to post, etc. Someone nuked but not a spammer, say give them a 1/120 chance of posting for one day. You can make a wheel they click to let them understand their odds similar to WMS Wager Saver.

As a fun "beat the system" challenge? </humor>

I thing the proposal would be difficult to implement effectively, and I don't see any added value for policing violations.

But why though?

This is a gambling forum, the suspensions would be better served randomly. This method might be a better tool to discipline and gives some people a chance to post, a chance to remember why they can't post, and a reason for the exiled to come back, even if they're just reading. You can call it anarchy amnesty, I think I like it.

Why would anyone care if they were suspended for three days from posting? If you told me I couldn't read the site for three days I might be upset, but who cares if you can post as long as you are still able to read the informative posts?

Personally, I think all suspensions should be much longer.

On two other forums I used to participate on, there was a warn system. Once you got 5 warn points you got a 7 day suspension. If you got 5 more it was like a month. If you went 7 days without a warn, your warning points would drop by 1. It was more strict but a small infraction didn't mean anything, but if you got many it meant something and you got a decent suspension. Of course the numbers were arbitrary and you can change them how you see fit.

I liked that system because it made it so people couldn't make a bunch of small insults that individually aren't worth a suspension would add up to a suspension.

As some of you know, I will suspended a while back for three days. For what it's worth, during my suspension, I initially didn't even realize I was suspended until I tried to post. I actually thought something was wrong with the forum.

During my suspension, I was able to continue to read posts and, most importantly, make bookmarks of threads that I wanted to respond to. It was not a big deal to wait a couple days and then make my response.

Unless I'm missing something, I don't understand why anyone would think that this random concept is a good idea.

Random is fair, anarchy is fair. If someone thinks they've gotten away with something, second they want to post and think they will, they'll quickly remember they're not free and the reason they're not free. We need more of a Michael Scott management, he thought of employees as family, he didn't want to give up on his family and worked with them. Remember Dwight doing laundry, learned his lesson and wasn't fired. I think we give up on people here too much, I think the forum is sucking. Ive stated this before, some other websites are built on this, yes something is wrong. It's boring, you post something, a few dependable people chime in, and it's dead, not enough brains. We're eye for an eye, everyone is being killed off or escaping, population is dwindling. Everything is not fine for me in my view.

They want people coming here, this gives the deplorables a chance to contribute. Maybe they'll come back and not be acting like before for whatever reason, and might be redeemable. God knows what they were going through then, divorce, alcohol, financial ruin, depression. Maybe if they came back, it'll be different enough to be for the best.

Dumbest thread ever!

I am truly offended. Under my proposal, you would be in jeopardy every day for the next 30 days. One day when the offense was out of your mind and you think it is ok to be like this again, perhaps you would be reminded of your transgression and denied the opportunity by chance for you to reoffend. Maybe this thread you think is dumb because it's actually visionary and your mind hasn't caught up with it yet. Same to everyone that agrees with you.

Suspensions look to be way down compared with previous periods. Not really sure why this has occurred (maybe less offenders/less volume/different moderation etc).

There's not very many people to suspend. Like trying to write traffic tickets in a one stoplight town with no thru traffic. Somehow I manage to make it into the penalty box every so often. I think things are fine the way they are.

No, not at all. Just trying to help for goodness' sake. The original post was not on the same path I got into later. It was awesome when there were many minds here, not so awesome feeling like we're a bunch of old farts getting coffee at McDonald's every morning until only one is left alive or able to be there. However, I expect a response now, Bill Ryan and Zcore should get many, many days for treating me worse than anyone here ever really has. Now if they would have a 1/2 or 1/3 chance of being able to post each day for sixty days, that would be a better punishment. I'm surprised they were so mean and rude, if they act this way in public, they must be some large strong men that have no fear of other men. Maybe 50/50 odds one or two of them have DD tits.

Short suspensions are good for individuals trading jabs In threads and keeping it derailed. Stops the drama.

But otherwise, I'd agree it's not a very strong deterrent.

Speaking for someone who I believe, without doing the research, is the active member suspended the most, I like the system. I have never found the mods to be unfair when handing out suspensions. I am about as far right as one can get and have no issue putting it out there in posts. And I believe to this day most of my suspensions have been in response to people no longer here. But I also don't believe there wasn't a time I was suspended that I didn't expect it to happen when I made the post. And I don't believe anyone suspended didn't think there were going to be, or considered it a possibility when they made the post in question.

This forum has done a helluva job in maintaining order over the years and has avoided becoming a cesspool like most become over time. Short of requirements that every poster is a Facebook member as many do today, you would be hard pressed to find a forum on any topic with the civility here.

For that I credit the creator The Wiz and the mods he assigned to monitor it. And while I have made it clear I'm no fan of the current owners they have also done a good job in allowing it to operate as before. For that I also give them credit. There is plenty of room here for people with different views.

As a wise man said years ago, accept it or don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

I get why sites do this, but I don’t think it would be a good move here.

Unlike other sites, the topics discussed here have a legitimate reason for a bit of anonymity beyond just wanting to be a jerk.

Really, you've put your finger on the challenge. Lots of baby-splitting, IMO.

1. Anonymous posters, although more than a few are known, many more don'twant to be.
2. A healthy respect for free speech.
3. A relatively strict set of rules.
4. An Internet culture full of trolls, spammers, and irrelevancy.
5. A highly intelligent, very diverse core of contributors.

Makes a great cake, but not without a lot of measuring and mixing . I appreciate that most everybody works to be circumspect, humorous, and civil.

This does make sense what you are saying. I wish I had been given a FAIR warning before being unexpectedly BANNED for life on another gambling website. I was always nice and respectful on that website, although I started a thread about annoying Youtube uploaders and "Favorite Members?" and I got a message saying,"You have been banned from this Forum. The date the ban will be lifted. Never." WTF? A warning would have been nice such as,"Posting "Favorite Members?" And "Annoying Youtube Uploaders?" Is not allowed on here." I don't think I deserved to be permanently BANNED for those minor transgressions!
