I have been in Surveillance for approximately 2 and a half year. I am a very outgoing people person who has a great love for the position. I recently became a supervisor after only 2 years on the job. I recently put in for a position of Surveillance Manager in another casino and was looking for advice as to whether i am moving too quickly.

I think the answer to your question depends on how much knowledge you've gained along the way. If you think you can keep yourself out of trouble - go for it! But if you think you might get caught in a situation where inexperience will bite you and derail your career, then maybe a little more seasoning would help in the long term.

How recently? I think anyone will want you to have at least six months if not a year of supervisory experience before hiring you as a supervisor. It also depends on the number of people you will be managing. Going from a job with six months experience of managing two people to a position where you'd be managing twenty people might be a stretch.

I have been a Supervisor of 10 employees for a little over 6 months. I am a quick learner and i do not feel anyone ever has all the knowledge so i would say i am fairly knowledgable. I would be going to a job where i am managing approximately 10 to 15 employees.

I'd say go for it. That fact that you were promoted to supervisor after two years on the job shows that you are a valued employee and your current employer trusts your knowledge and ability. These are strengths you can use.

Agreed. The only reason to stay is if there is some value in your current position, like a mentor, paid advanced training, cutting edge technology, an even better opportunity, vesting...

I'm in retail management, but the company I work for often promotes people to high levels with 7 WEEKS of experience, at age 23. Then they wonder why the turnover rate is so high. Don't get me wrong; I love the company that I work for, but 2 years at my company usually means you WON'T get promoted, simply because you have too MUCH experience.
