Less expensive alternatives, include ceramic (.65 cents each) and coin inlaid (.15 cents each). Check out Amercian Gaming Supply for a great selection.
There used to be a few local manufacturers of high quality clay chips, but the poker boom, and online availability of cheap overseas manufacturing of plastic chips with weighted inserts, put their brick and motar stores out of business.
Quote: s2dbakerI saw this Denver Poker Shop. Expensive but seems to be the cheapest for the 750 World Tophat and Cane Paulson chip set.
You can do better than that, I think you can get 1000 chips in an acrylic cage for just under £1000 (about $650?)
I will try and find the supplier I used.
if I could get 1,000 pounds Sterling for a mere $650, I'd fly across to pond and see every show on the West End. I might be able to score £650 for$ 1000 though.Quote: WizardofEnglandQuote: s2dbakerI saw this Denver Poker Shop. I would like to get the quality ones one day when we have more money and space, but after having a few souvenir chips come home with me, I am cringing even thinking about handling the clangy cheapo ones I got in the closet.
The main thing I am worried about is the sound and feel. Design doesnt really matter. thanks in advance.
Quote: stinkyWhat do you guys think would be the best 'quality' set for under $100 for say 500 chips? What about a lesser budget, $50?
You can find some really great sets on ebay if you shop around. Just remember that poker chip sets aren't light so expect to pay a bit in shipping. Ebay is a great way to get a unique set for a decent price.

Thanks, I have been shopping around for a couple days, learning whats 'good' etc. I have a Prime Amazon account so I am able to get free shipping on certain items. I was just curious if there is any experience with certain budget brands, or a specific set that stood out as a great deal.
I trust the folks here to find the good stuff over the Amazon reviewers who may not know the difference between chip quality.
If they work out then I'll go for this:
Whats even better is that I had $6 in ebay bucks so I got the sample for free.
Best deal by far !!!! For every budget.
Dont forget the 10 % off !!
Unless you think regular casino chips are too light, 13.5g is going to be too heavy for you.

Thanks, I ordered the King's Casino sample set. I sure am glad I stumbled upon the sample sets, since there isnt a good variety of good reviews on some chips.

I'll have to convince the wife to allow me a little more $$$ for some Desert Palms or Pharoh's.

Go for the heavy ones, even if you're not used to them. You won't regret it, they feel great.
Incidentally, the lightest real casino chips I ever held were the 25c at Crown Casino in Melbourne Australia - they almost float out of your hand!
