Hi! I was sent a W2G indicating I had won at gambling online slots. I've never been. Don't gamble, much less win. I've checked all my accounts and never had a deposit matching the amount won, just incase I now Ambien gamble..
Anyway, to make matters worse, Boyd Gaming, that sent me the W2G changed ownership. Now it's owned by MGM.
When I eventually reach the person I need to in order to correct this, how do I prove it wasn't me?
I thought my identity was stolen, but no one has opened any accounts under my SS# and my credit report looks accurate.
I'm at a loss.

News to me, so I looked it up.

I found no evidence of any Boyd sales since they sold their 50% share of Borgata in 2016.

You're correct. Sorry about that. Boyd Gaming does not own Borgata.
The form says I won at Borgata and when I googled, it sent me to Boyd Gaming.
I guess I'll have to go to Borgata now? I don't know. I wish I had the $3000 they say I won.

odd that you see no sign that your identity was stolen

I'd check with my spouse
the next time Dame Fortune toys with your heart, your soul and your wallet, raise your glass and praise her thus: “Thanks for nothing, you cold-hearted, evil, damnable, nefarious, low-life, malicious monster from Hell!”   She is, after all, stone deaf. ... Arnold Snyder

Funny how Boyd was mentioned here
they sold Borgata in '16
But the form was from them this time?
OP didn't say Borgata first
Dave mentioned it to show no sales
then OP said that play was there
This doesn't add up well at all
at least not for 2020
W2g forms. What's up with that?
I also don't like paying taxes.

I did. He's even less likely than me, but I double checked.
I only found one phone number for customer service and they didn't know who I should contact.

I tried to copy and paste from the form itself, but it wouldn't allow it.

Borgata Online? OK then.
They think you won a bet online
Did you bet on sports and win big?
or maybe play their slot app lots?

Not really. If someone wanted to open an online casino account in his name, then they could do so in NJ with almost nothing. They'd have to have some information about him, but not necessarily enough that it would be sufficient to open up a credit card. Also, online casinos are not going to report to the credit bureaus for anything because you're not applying for any sort of credit.

The only thing that I would see as being difficult would be actually cashing out if you (you being the person who opened the account) won, but I guess there are a few ways it could be done...especially if you could convince PayPal that you were that person.
