One show I really liked was the Shield. It was on FX and ended a couple of years ago. I would put that show up there with a Soprano's and Breaking Bad. Michael Chiklis as a dirty cop. Great TV IMO. Not on the list but I think you should give it a look.

Mad Men is the best, but it's last season is coming.
You can see the past seasons on Netflix, well
worth the $7.99 a month if you don't already have
it. I watch a movie on Netflix every day, it's a
fantastic bargain. Take your notebook or tablet
to bed and use your headphones. You'll want
to be Don Draper, he's defined cool in a whole
new way.

I'll just stick with reruns of Columbo. You do know Lt. Columbo's first name, don't you ?

If you have HBO, both seasons of The Network are online, wiith Jeff Daniels, written by Aaron Sorkin. It was slightly uneven but really interesting. Total commitment about 20 hours.

I do know Columbo's first name. It's a famous trivia question that was indirectly involved in a 300 million dollar lawsuit from, of all people, a former air traffic controller.

Columbo is the greatest. I have all the DVD's and watch them often. Really pisses off my wife.

Columbo never actually reveals his first name, but there is one episode where he flashes his badge. I paused the machine and the name displayed is Frank. Many of you probably already know this.

There is another episode when he is directly asked "What is your first name?"

Columbo replies "Lieutenant."

GoT is the best series I've ever seen. Not just for the gratuitous violence and nudity, nor for the medievalness of it all, but it's just a damn good drama.

The Walking Dead is good in a masturbatory way, but midway through season 2 it sort of lost its way. It's still "good" (zombie apocalypses are always "good"), but it went away from a sort of unique survivalist horror and into regular TV cheese.

GoT did no such thing. All the way through season 3 it was still kicking strong, never jumped the shark, never got ridiculous. Without spoiling, I'll say two words to those in the know - Rob Stark. I was "disappointed" when the Leafs blew a 4-1 lead to Boston and got eliminated from the playoffs. I literally screamed at my TV during that particular section of GoT.

I saw that one. It was fun explaining to my wife what a big deal it would be to be able to solve NP problems in P-time. Of course, that's one of the goals of quantum computing, though we're not close with the actual implementation yet. Here's an abstract from a 1994 paper:

Quote: Quantum computation and NP-complete problems, Takashi Mihara, Tetsuro Nishino

In this paper, we show that the Deutsch's universal quantum Turing machine can solve any NP-complete problem in polynomial time under a physical assumption that we can observe the existence of a specific physical state in a given superposition of physical states. This result establishes an interesting relationship between quantum physics and computational complexity theory.

I didn't see it happening either. Pretty good serial though with a little history to it. If Bohannan didn't keep getting out of those impossible situations they'd have to end the show.
