Quote: ChesterDogMondays are so slow in Atlantic City casinos that some table games don't open. I hope to go to Atlantic City on Martin Luther King Day (1/21/13) but only if my favorite games are available. With whom at the casino should I speak to find if a particular table game will be open then?
MLK day is usually pretty busy in AC. a lot of people from DC have off and make a day trip
Any Monday holiday is busy - almost as busy as a regular Sunday.
This is easily verified by the room rates. They are relatively low Sunday thru Thursday all month - except Sunday 1/20, when they are priced somehwere between typical Friday and Saturday rates.
Quote: 1BBI will probably be in South Jersey this weekend and may grab a night or two in AC. If there's anything specific that anyone would like me to check I'll be happy to look into it for you. Serious inquiries only. I'm not going to count the cats on the beach. :-)
I actually would be interested in the fate of the cats post-Sandy;-)
If you happen to make it to the South end of the boardwalk, I'd be interested in knowing if Atlantic Club has re-opened the asian games area. I think there was a discussion about that area a few weeks ago, but nobody knew the current state (it was closed for renovation at the time of the most recent name change...)

Oddly, CZR did honor my 3 free nights offer for that weekend (at Harrah's, could also have done Showboat but not Bally's or Caesars). I'm not even sure if I'm going yet, but I wanted to throw the reservation out there before things filled up.

RDW, I was in Atlantic City Thursday, 1/4 searching for the $3 craps table at Trump Plaza or Atlantic Club (with no success) but I did notice that PGP was open at the Atlantic Club and they do have tables with brand new felt on them which looked like they would be opening soon. I don't think there is another section for the "Asian Games", but the one strip of PGP games were in fact open as of 4 days ago.

You didn't find the $3 game at the Plaza? I thought that was a 24/7 institution - did they take it out??

Are the stray cats in Atlantic City a notable/historical thing? Like in Rome? I love cats, but recently had to give mine up due to my girlfriend's allergies. So I like to live vicariously by looking at cat pictures on the internet (doesn't everybody?). Like these pictures from "Cat Heaven Island" in Japan.
(Sorry for the thread-jack)

Yeah the cats are sort of legendary I guess. For a long time they were pretty out of control. Now some sort of non-profit volunteer group takes care of them. They spay or neuter them to control the population and even make sure they are feed properly I think. There are signs all along the boardwalk not to feed them. With the groups name and number on it. Sorry can't remember the group...I think it's something like PAWS. Just AC at it's quirky best (or worst) depending on your point of view.

The Boardwalk cats are doing just fine and are lovingly cared for by Alley Cat Allies. Lucky them!

In 2000, Alley Cat Allies formed a coalition to stop a municipal order to catch and kill cats living on and under Atlantic City’s boardwalk. With the city’s cooperation, Alley Cat Allies staff and local volunteers began a Trap-Neuter-Return program for the boardwalk cats. The program celebrated its 10th anniversary in June 2010.

It says that the cats survived Hurricane Sandy without much trouble.

The Asian games consist of four tables at one end of a mixed pit. There are two mini bac, one pai gow tiles and one emperor challenge pai gow. All were running although sometimes not all at once.
Here's some miscellaneous Atlantic City tidbits:
The family that has owned the Atlantic City Press for sixty years has put it on the market.
Another born and raised local in now running a casino. Mark Giannantonio is the new president and CEO of resorts Atlantic City. He started there thirty years ago as a room service waiter on the night shift.
The Wizard of Odds of Atlantic City is still writing a column for Atlantic County Magazine, one of the free ones available on the Boardwalk. Here's a quote from the column that appeared in the January 11, 2013 edition:
"To improve your chances of becoming a winner you should always take the odds into consideration when engaging in any type of gaming, casino or otherwise."
Wow. I think I need to write that one down!Quote: 1BB"To improve your chances of becoming a winner you should always take the odds into consideration when engaging in any type of gaming, casino or otherwise."

"To improve your chances of becoming a winner you should always take the odds into consideration when engaging in any type of gaming, casino or otherwise."
My boss, who may not have been exactly sober at the time, spent an evening recently bleeding money to me on a series of even money bets under the false impression that the even money offered meant that the outcomes were equally likely.
The action at Caesars isn't all on the felt:Quote: vendman1While you'd think Atl City would have some lower limits given the increased competition surrounding them. They don't seem to on a consistent basis.
"A man was arrested Sunday after an armed robbery and stabbing at Caesars. The 27-year-old victim was robbed of $96 and stabbed in the arm with a box cutter about 3:30 a.m. Sunday on Caesars’ casino floor, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said. Casino security chased the suspect to Indiana and Garfield avenues, but did not catch him.
Kareem Taylor, 37, was found in a rear yard on Indiana Avenue and was taken in by K-9 Officer Marinela Pali and her partner, Roxy, after resisting arrest, according to the police report. The K-9 team recently graduated from the academy; it was Roxy’s first apprehension." acpress

Must have rolled a seven.
In the last few months they moved craps tables, making all the pits on the ocean side of the floor. I don't think the Toga Bar moved from its most recent customary location, which was surrounded by slot machines, although with some bead-curtain thing to set it off.Quote: BozMy understanding is this happened in the Toga Bar, just off the casino floor. Not that it makes a difference.
